I work on about £2/ton to crush , plus a machine to load..Need to put a bit through that to pay
Waste of time loading a machine that small with a machine in my experience. They block up for fun.I work on about £2/ton to crush , plus a machine to load..
Well that’s gonna be even worse!!!Fitter's been out and agreed it's not working as intended, going to swap with smaller one they have in yard.
Can’t you negotiate a better skip price if clean hardcore?I’ve got a Tigerbite crusher which is does pay its way on tight access jobs such as small extensions where often the patio is being lifted to make space for the extension & replaced at the end with new. Crush all paving & any rubble from knock throughs for hardcore under subfloor or new patio areas etc. Saves £330odd+vat on skips (grab wagons are rarer than buses around here) & the labour in & out. Wouldn’t hire it though as easily knackered in the wrong hands. You’d not want to loading it for a few days on end, neighbours rarely appreciate the noise & I’ll never be adding the number of zeros onto my tax return that @doobin must but it more than wipes its own arse & most importantly makes me less reliant on others turning up when I need them so less down time.
I’m more than an hour away from the nearest skip operator not is a great place for negotiating price & not generally full skips to crush so would end up filling up with general waste or sending away part full. And I spend enough on the bloody things already, on average around £5-6k a year. Can’t you negotiate a better skip price if clean hardcore?
about 30-35 ton to be cost neutral... less skip costs (assume the labour to load the crusher is the same as barrowing out to a skip and bringing clean back in) That sound about right?Need to put a bit through that to pay

TJs recycled blend has planings in it and it’s good gear at just under £30/t.Depends on the area.
We can get 8 wheelers in for clean concrete breakout at £30 a lorry. ( Grabs are a fair bit more this is for a straight tipper)
Low quality recycled crush start at £12 a tonne and extends to £35 a tonne for high quality grade recycled type one blended with clay as a binder in specific quantity. The quality that these small crushers produce equates to between £12 and £20 a tonne. At the above £1195 a week hire that could be as much as 90 tonnes to break even.
Presumably they're nearby you as I wouldn't want to be running a grab wagon full very far for that money!TJs recycled blend has planings in it and it’s good gear at just under £30/t.
I pay £100 for a grab removal of clean hardcore View attachment 54199

Maybe 15 miles away. If they're running low on feedstock for their crusher it's sometimes cheaper, or if I order a load of crush on the same wagon.Presumably they're nearby you as I wouldn't want to be running a grab wagon full very far for that money!
That about sums it up. The 2 times I've had one we needed crushed, needed concrete removal and had no access for grabs- 2nd job we had to track crusher, micro and slanetrac through the house ! Luckily it was basically a shell.Waste of time loading a machine that small with a machine in my experience. They block up for fun.
They are great for nightmare access sites where you have a load of concrete to crush and need type 1. Stick a labourer feeding it and you end up (slowly) with a nice sample.
But if you can get a grab to the job and can trust your supplier for decent quality type 1, that works out cheaper IME.
The hire prices are a joke, this thing probably costs less than the 3 ton digger I had on hire last week but 3x the hire cost. I had even more expensive quotes. I'm sure they cost a bit to run but I'm sure the hire firms are milking it while these machines are not that commonplace. Those hire prices are savage.
I'm sure I asked this before but how does it work permit wise assuming the small towables are just small enough to not need one
I was asked specifically to break up and crush a hardstanding for part of the job. That about sums it up. If you're saving on both ends like that they pay, but if you only need it getting rid of better of spending on a couple of barrow pushers or dumpering out to a grab pile if possible.
