managed to get a few bits done last week .. case of having to with this ... not been done in over two or three weeks .... took some cutting (and needs doing yet again already - too wet though, ATM with either heavy dew or frost, that needs to dry off)
broke meself in 'gently' with a small job the next day ...
took some splitting .... OK if you know where all the 'tags' are, but guessing where they were was hard going ..... one of Vicki's from school
quite how the hell this belt came off is beyond me ??
Gave it all a good blast out and recovered several broken needles and pins from the guts, 'fore persuading it back together.
then went looking for why a.n.other machine controller wasn't performing ... easy answer once found ...
but with moulded plugs either end, achieving a decent looking repair, that'd pass PAT testing and look tidy was a slow process - shrink wrap, staggered soldered joint, more shrink wrap over the inners and a final wrap over the outer sheath looked reasonably respectable ... see what PAT-man says
into town Monday for some money juggling and a CHAPS to the solicitor dealing with Vicki's new house ... spotted this in Morrisons' car park - it followed me in and sounded glorious
couldn't work out what the motor was .. I'm sure @Furniss 'll have an idea .... bit naughty running round with race numbers on the sides - illegal in the UK, unless crossed through with some tape
feeling significantly better this week end and been shifting firewood quietly with a barrow Sat./Sun., on/off ..... CNBA to extract the baskets from under the 8 or 9 lengths of 300 mil perf pipes that're sat on top of them, carry them down to the wood shed and empty them there ... barra seemed an easier option ... initially
surprised just how much the shed held/took to fill

cage and three quarters ... will probably take the last quarter cage AND a.n.other at least ... still CNBA to shift the damned pipes though and the empty cages for the next one .... 'bout 14 very full barrow-fuls to a cage ... body felt ok -- feet were less so

two lovely days, but a bitter North wind kept the temperature well down all weekend with a real hard, white frost on everything Sunday morning Winter is approaching, but slowly ... lots of flowers still well out ... would like to get the grass massacred again, today if it dries enough ... rest of the week's is forecast pissy wet and 50+ mil. of rain ... but it's kids day today - little un' currently on nap time - not gonna last for long though ........... and speak of the devil - she's yelling GRAND DAD !!

finally exchanged today after a lot of faffing about with the sellers ...
expected three weeks left on the gas boiler inspection cert, to be acceptable -- think again - get it done or I keep the cost of a new boiler out of the offered price ...
you'd think I'd demanded a 100 yr guarantee on the bloody thing ..
what a **** about getting them to sort it.
"Would you pay thousands for a car, sight unseen, with three weeks MOT? ... nah me neither!! -- get it sorted "

as said else where ..... been to Simon's brother's place today ..... try and sort a 'bit of a problem' with his little Deutz traccy .... top link mount (which I welded back together a few years back) had snapped two studs holding it on and was looking very nadgered .. 14mm stepped studs down to 12mm ... ridiculous size for what they were doing.
Simon'd had a go at the one and'd failed to get the damned thing out, capped off by ending up off centre
but only just
so got him to strip all the extraneous bits an' bobs off it and loaded up a load of gear and headed over there this morning. Bucket full of #1MT, 14mm drills of varying lengths, some 18s and 19s, five new 14mm broaches and mount, couple of #3MT chucks, taps, wrenches etc. and plenty of Rocol........plus of course me Magtron and tranny.
No where near enough flat surface to get a grip so had to get creative ..
and wrestling 30+ks of mag drill into position called for a bit more lateral thinking
and gentle FLT handling
bloody broach mount didn't give me enough travel with the drill offset by 50mil on the plate so, had to cheat a bit and grab it in the 20m chuck I'd fortunately taken with me ..... once I'd gotten enough depth with that I could then swap to a 14mil drill, to give me a centre for a pilot hole, then back to the 14 mil drill to get the full depth .... a right p*ss about but got there in the end ......
then it was a case of very carefully repeat the process on the one Simon'd been 'at'
got there in the end with that too - eventually ...
and used the mag with the tap in the chuck to start it by hand
tapped out to M16 ... no choice (and the 14/12s were just too small for what this carries IMHDO)
taking the holes in the bracket out to 18 was another saga in itself ..... the bracket's spring steel ..... one drilled out sweet as ...... t'other one was a right bas**rd ...
out of oxy so couldn't get some selective heat into where I wanted to drill .. Plumber's little gas blow torch was like p*ssing in the wind ... must've sharpened the drill 30-40 time over the course of a couple of hours trying and eventually gave up ... coming to mine in the morning and I'll open the hole out either with some proper heat and a drill or simply wash it out with the torch ... got a 2mm deep guide to work to (which took a couple of hours to achieve) took longer peeing about with that one hole than all the rest of it combined ... 's one bloody hard piece of spring steel
the 'offending' item getting repaired with some 299s a while back .. can't quite see the holes in question in the last pic ........ repair has held well for the last 18 months, considering the top link hangs on that spring

so much for the forecast nice day ... got set up ready to sort the 19 mil hole for Simon, when he arrived and it pee-ed down and has been doing more of the same most of the day .. glorious start - 'til I wanted to do anything outside
had to lift the lump of UB out from where it was with lil' Jake ... could used to pick it up and put it where I wanted it
not anymore ... what you can't see is Simon stood holding the 4ft umbrella, keeping us and the drill dry good old TC masonry drill ground to a scraper edge ... flew through the spring steel, with plenty of rain water cooling from the full tins sat around on the bench
Simon was impressed ..... and overjoyed to have a second hole in a matter of minutes
left here for his brother's place to go finish re-assembling the little Deutz ..... should put an even bigger grin on his brother Richard's face .... was like an 82 year old Cheshire cat yesterday, looking at the two new M16 bolts protruding from the back of his little traccy's arse end
Have known the pair of 'em since the late 70s and it's frightening just how fast the time goes by .. Si is starting to look old at 69, pushing 70 shortly ... and Richard has suddenly started to look his 82 years
..... old bugger still skis two or three times a year though, fair play to him.
