Trailers here are traditionally wood to stop loads sliding about and machines struggling to load.
I prefer mesh floors for moving plant.

Once wooden gets damaged it only gets worse until it goes completely.

Also the added bonus of no muck to sweep out.

I for Williams type trailers aren't great but proper hgv plant trailers with proper timber floors last well.

We use galvanised checkerplate steel to deal with those issues.

With our wet climate even checker plate is slippy. Some lorries have checker plate ramps and have to carry conveyor belt matting to load steel track machines

Hi Druid.
Couple of questions from someone who likes to minimise maintenance and also has a lot of equipment and property to maintain:

Why not a galvanised replacement floor in the trailer? The only time I see a timber based floor over here is on imported UK trailers. Everything else here is steel and mainly the entire trailer is hot dipped galvanised for use near the coast. (All my trailers are fully galvanised)

Ditto for the shed. Why don't you use a colorbond steel cladding instead of timber that requires tedious painting maintenance. Of course I'm assuming you have the equivalent of Colorbond in the UK. It's very popular here because it's relatively low cost, easy to attach to roof or walls, lasts for ages even on the coast and comes in whatever colour you like. (All roof on my houses are Colorbond or galvanised steel and all my sheds are on both roofs and walls.)
fair Qs Dave ...... always used to find that a steel bottom in trailers had a tendency to 'boom' on tow ...
and a sheet of 3mm to go in there'd be five times the price ...
plus TBH it'd want to be 4mm to stand up to use.
My big 10' x 5' is all steel, folded monocoque from two 10 x 5 sheets and joined in the centre .. my own little 8' (1/2") x 4' (1/2") is designed so that an 8' x 4' sheet'll just drop in (and come out easily) ..
keep the floor for that indoors, when not in use ......
AND carrying 8' x 4's in it is a POP .. drop the tail and slide them out

As for the shed .. yeh colourcoat'd've been ideal ... but didn't have a lot of say in that   ... 's what the boss wanted 'to look right' .... based on old railway lineside workmen's sheds - made out of sleepers on end
can't find any 'actual' pix ATM

Looking for a site in Bargoed, early 80,s .. stopped to ask a milkman for directions - it's 05.45 and I'm in a TMS300 Grove .. like this, but with two chain boxes with about 2.5t of chains in and 10 half sleepers on the deck -- circa 33t...

. (even with the weight of the machine 1st crawler was an awesomely powerful gear - once pulled a fully laden artic out of a stream with 1st crawler, like it wasn't there), but that's another story :giggle:
this 'road' came out onto a main-ish drag and there was no way I was gonna make a pull away ... anything coming was gonna see 5-6ft of jib and hook block appear, slowly, fore me an' the cab started to fill the road, followed by two axles wearing 13.00-20 wheels... and I was gonna want ALL the available road:oops::rolleyes:
crested that junction with about 400 revs to spare and most of the seat foam up my bum, to a thankfully empty road .. and damn me there was the site  ...... never, ever, EVER ask a milkman for bloody directions
got quite a few interesting 'tales' from 45 odd years ... some of which'll take some writing :giggle: and a lot of paper photo searching :(

Once the big shed is up 👍
if I keep catching sh1t at the rate I seem to these days ferk all is ever gonna get done :cry:

got up the Monday after i'd been out with Russ, with a stinker of a cold ...
only 'stranger' I'd been near was the guy with the machine and he seemed ok?
Shouldn't have shook his hand though, 'praps :(

anyway -- couple of really 'heavy cold' days and it was on its way out :)...
Friday did the drive with Pam and all the grass here, Saturday was out with Serge and his missus for some scran ...
Sunday morning - shoot me now .. back with a vengeance ..
head/sinuses full of snot, lungs full of crap, barking like a dog, cold sweats, the shakes, banging head, untouchable scalp and everything tasting like tish - again!!
Been wiped out all week.🤬
Serge came and borrowed a trailer Friday evening and by the time I'd finished messing about with it, was absolutely ****ed ... ditto Saturday when it came back.:(
Pam's been in Plymouth since Friday morning and one of Josh's BILs who should have been there, bailed with the same symptoms ... he's been to the Quack and they reckon it's the latest variant, starting to get about 😡:(

I used to be so bullet proof ! :cry:
