I think it is a case of if you are stopped, pleading ignorance would be the worse thing to do. If you are confident that you are right without being a twat then you are more likely to be given the benefit of doubt before it gets to court! But as I have never been stopped while towing this opinion could be a load of nonsenses!

To go back to op - running a 7.5t truck and trailer gives you option to get a dumper and 2.5 tonner to a days job on same load - running a 3.5t tipper and trailer doesnt give you that option.

all seems a bit on the pricey side and another £3k to fit the kit to the pick up but a pay load of 4000kg with out 8 week inspections and all that faf may be worth it your thoughts please

I assume you use the pick up axle weight allowance to get from 3800kg to 5300kg but 1500 kg difference seems a lot

minus the weight of the trailer itself ..... and would need a pre-'97 license for the B class, or do the trailer test if license gained after '97 .... however ...

this would've fallen into the old class 4 category (light artic, like the old Scammel Scarabs) as it's a semi-imposed load trailer and I'd want ministry confirmation that it doesn't fall into C+E before spending my wonga on one

won't get much more than that on the tyre sizes Shaun ..... without going to very expensive HD tyres ... like 10 plys to up the capacity and then fit bigger axles in the manufacture

I assume you use the pick up axle weight allowance to get from 3800kg to 5300kg but 1500 kg difference seems a lot

you'd need the coupling very carefully positioned in the bed to get the full carrying capacity of the trucks capabilities
