What’s ironic about that is they are so strict with new connections these days, last one I did afew weeks ago, 3 different ‘team leaders’ & inspectors all came out and photographed & filmed all my work. To be fair the road connection was about 1.2m deep!
Main man said they rarely pass any jobs first time anymore(mine was passed obviously )

They tried to fail one I did as the pipe had been buried about 300mm as all the ground had been stripped down 500mm for some funny piling system to be used. It was quite obvious what the finished ground level would be but simply didn't compute with the inspector.

A colleague did similar on a small development but virtually no cover as they had reduced the ground to much. Inspector insisted they ripped it all out and reinstalled at 750mm so they did. Then built the ground up and failed as they where now over 1200mm in the ground which is maximum cover

I had to go and meet some blokes from the water company the other day trying to do a connection. I had buried the pipes running across the fields to three new properties and they were trying to find them in the driveway where the meters were to be installed. But they couldn't find them. They had given up digging at about 500mm and when I said dig deeper their only response was they certainly won't be being hurried that deep across the road. If the water company won't do it not a surprise that noone else will

I got a heads up today from scottish water that if we don’t tick every box by the letter for new connections they will be refused . Pictures need to be exactly as the manual shows if not they won’t connect . They are getting out of hand . I recently done one that I put in at 900mm cover on private ground sanded with marker tape . I moles it under a road so I had all pictures showing it passing under the road . I couldn’t get a connection because I had put it in a duct . I had to dig both sides of the road up and then managed to slide the duct back out of the hole leaving the pipe in there . No way was he letting me away with it .
That’s the ducts coming back out .
I was fuming !

I don't know if they have to have any additional certificates for it or whether there is a certificate available such as Shea that allows non plumbers to do it but it is far easier without them breathing down your neck

I thought it was 1350mm .

I did one on a “brownfield” site, literally under fence line to a standpipe. Severn Trent insisted it had to be done in protectaline barrier pipe before they would do the connection. Owner told me once I’d done this and it was connected they’d run their own pipework across the yard in normal mdpe pipe

For our two local water companies you can have a plumber sign it off without having to deal with them. I don't know if they have to have any additional certificates for it or whether there is a certificate available such as Shea that allows non plumbers to do it but it is far easier without them breathing down your neck

It’s a con. I have all the qualifications, but would have to pay to join the Watersafe scheme. Then I’d have to double my liability insurance, just to sign off maybe 2 jobs a year. I saw one done by an “approved company” last year, literally just poked through wall with no ducting/insulation/wrong depth then when I connected it internally the pipe they had fitted was blocked solid

A lot of the isssues I have is guys in offices looking at my photos who’ve never stood in a hole with water running in around you from their leaking main, getting to be pedantic about the slightest thing .

You chaps seem to have a lot of bother ,here with Welsh water it's no bother ,pipeout as close to main as poss ,to a stand pipe inside your boundary ,with a check valve ,and they connect no fuss

Yeah, did a bit of reading on the Yank forums and farming forum. A few complaining of problems with the powershift box (although probably down to lack of oil changes!) but the manual box with the power shuttle appears to be OK.

How about this one? It’s a manual with power shuttle, servo controls, air seat, soft ride, 40k box, extendahoe and a Geith hydraulic hitch with four buckets. 56 plate, 6400 hours. Apparently the stickers will come off easy enough. Got breaker if I want it for £2k extra
