What’s on the cards for 2023?

Staying alive for another year would be a the ideal goal for next year. That aside I actually feel my business has reached a certain level of stagnation. No real desire to expand and take on the world like Gunners and even though still enjoy the work I wouldn't say it's particularly challenges me like the early days. So be nice to think of some way of stimulating fresh excitement into the business....
Menzi?

From a work perspective I hopefully plan to muddle through . It’s going to be interesting but not somthing I am looking forward too

Personally , have more home time with the kids and take them to Disney and Spain

I bought a tilt rotator 13 tonne machine this week. Lovely setup with a few attachments . Tempted to set up a small hire setup

2023…

Learn to say no, and be more selective on the jobs I want to do instead of trying to keep everyone happy. Would like a newer slightly bigger van but can’t currently justify the cost to change. Fancy adding a roller and maybe a 1.9t to the fleet but will see what happens with prices after xmas.
it is do-able .... just have to be strong (and a little brave) to start with, but it is quite feasible if you have a good rep.(y)

I can't see the point in breaking your balls all your life, at my age now 53 it tends to be discussed alot.
Yes I'll always have to work I've only got a small personal pension it will draw about 2k when I'm 65😂
know that feeling well .... have had one since mid 20,s .... was with the Pearl ------ which got bought out by Phoenix Life - and asset stripped ... the likely return'll be less than 5% of the original projections 🤬🤬🤬 .. it's a decent pot, so'll most likely liquidate it ... would have to live into my 90,s to see a proper/any real return of contributions :mad:

Has anyone managed to successfully achieve this?
And I ask this very honestly as I feel I am a classic for saying yes to everything then running around like mad trying to get everything done. The last couple of years have been very good earners but unsustainable in terms of time spent working. But on the flip side, we've had a recession on the horizon for so long now its felt a bit like make hay while the sun shines. And going into one now, as we no doubt are, turning work away seems completely counterintuitive to me?
Am I being a busy fool? Has anyone worked out a decent work life balance?
I mean, Druid has retired and still harps on about his work all the time, recalling land rovers he should have restored and JCB's he shouldn't have sold.... - am I doomed to this fate also?

I would really like a 8w hook loader as think it would be a very good asset to the business and maybe a Takeuchi duck everyone keeps telling me lorries are money pits whilst continuing to take my money for their lorry

I'll just say Doob ..... you can not buy time .... when it's gone it's gone - "simples" ......
I used to spend my waking hours keeping a gang of 12 blokes busy, ordering materials, scheduling work, quoting work, invoicing, eyeballing jobs, etc., etc.
I became more selective as the workforce diminished (finding fabbies is like hen's teeth) .. still made similar money, but doing better paying work and didn't spend so much time with my head up my a**e, in ever diminishing circles, worrying about keeping them all productive ... the older I got the more I valued my time ....... but still wish I'd done a lot of things I didn't --------- 'cos I was too ***ing busy being successful at what i did, by doing the above.
........ "It is do-able .................." .... just don't leave it too long if you can

They are, you either buy used and spend on it regularly or buy new and pay the big out lay.

Only you can work out if its viable for you but you will spend alot on them.

Mine works for me doing my own jobs rather than shifting s**t for others

I don't think I would want to shift for others but would be very annoying if you were closer by and couldn't because you weren't on a national..

This is where I say sod working late or mega early. It gives you more time constantly over the week to catch up on paperwork or actually do something other than work, whether it be DIY, family stuff or an hour of doing bugger all.

I'm sure Rory can give you some better insight on that.

You won't really get asked to run muck from a site with a Roro as you don't get the weight on. A firm I know well used to put Roro's on tipper work, soon got realised they were taking 4t less every trip.

Same happened down here they got reimbursed for it in the end, was more for when running round with a plate on moving my own gear and then people ask.

How much roughly is a 6 weekly? minus any work?

The other thing with an hgv is don't be the only driver. I was until recently the only one on the gang with hgv and also the supervisor. It really doesn't mix as you invariably come back with materials and they haven't done the work left ready for them or you go to get things first thing and magically they arrive on site at the same time as you despite going an hour out your way to the builders merchants

Mine costs around £90 inc vat for inspection and grease. Key is find a decent one, the first ones I used were rip off merchants.

To be fair since I’ve had my little one I don’t tend to do much more than 07:30 to 4:30 mon/fri, I don’t stop & work hard when I’m on site but the days of going hard at it till 10pm and onwards are long gone!!
