I'm sure there was a shed nearby that went up and took part of the house while charging batteries, also seems to be be a fair few e bikes going up in flames.Bloody hell. After reading that I've just gone downstairs and put the drill batteries out in the shed!
Could all be problems with either the type of battery or just cheaply made genuine parts or knock offs

having seen vid.s on youtube of e-bikes spontaneously combusting .. don't they ever go up ... watched an e-Harley go up somewhere in the states too
... none of them on charge, simply sat/parked

I think we should say it was a genuine battery ‘allegedly’….because it might not have been? But it was connected to a tool, has that maybe got more to do with it than the battery simply combusting all by itself? Those scooter batteries going up are obviously connected to the control circuit, could this have a bearing on it?
I’m not sure. I never leave batteries on charge if I’m not around anyway, but I’m starting to think they maybe shouldn’t be connected to the tools unattended! But it’s easier said than done….

The other things we don't know as well, had the tool just been used (battery warm), just been charged, was it damaged, had it been used on impact wrench vibration damage, water ingress/damage?
It would be good to know more, so hopefully we can learn from it.

I can't remember exactly now and it could have been complete bollox in any case but there was something at the time in comments on a post somewhere about i saw that made out there was something not 100% about the battery whether it was damaged or something i can't remember. As i say maybe wasn't right anyway but either way makes you think. I still had 2 faulty 14v li ion makita battery's knocking about until i saw this the first time.

Can be very loud, from what I have seen getting a rx7 to track day noise limits requires some decent silencing or even fitting an additional silencer hanging off the rear bumperyou had to admire the rotaries ... both cars and drivers .... can you imagine how loud they must've been sat in them

probably is the case these days Brendan, but back in the '80,s/'90,s, particularly at the Le Mans 24hr, I think that all went out the window, for the sake of outright performance ... as has been said ... the Mazdas could be heard right around the circuit, from anywhere on it ... they were unbelievably loud and screamed their way around for 24hrs
.... we're very unlikely to ever see the like again

Only at the goodwood revival.
The gt40 race is the loudest thing I have ever heard. We had to give up after a couple of laps as it was honestly unbearable.

..... ear plugs and defenders .... can imagine on a short circuit they must be pretty loud (read - inspiring ) ... you get me the ticket and i'll go watch 'em for you next time

Really impressed at a lot of levels, but it still has the wee problem of where does the ammonia come from.
To me, it looks 'green' in the same way an electric car is 'green.
Although there new production techniques are in development, currently the main feed stock is methane (natural gas) which of course produces a lot of CO2 as a by-product.
Unlike many niche / exotic chemicals, ammonia is the second biggest manufactured commodity on the planet, so there is a huge incentive already to to improve manufacturing techniques.
