jeeezus H ...... that is pretty silly, but only £1662/t ... 's a 148kg plate ..... still 250-ish% above pre-covid/sh1t storm prices though :rolleyes::mad:

It’s a fukcing piss take is what it is

I had three bars wrongly delivered on Tuesday, rep had made a mistake, it was box, should have been angle, useful sizes. Ordinarily I’d have taken them, put them into stock and not worried too much, but not the way things are currently!
Although I will probably regret that in a few months when prices are probably even higher!

totally agree, but'll only drop back to sensible levels when they're mothballing mills for lack of demand :rolleyes: ....... as happened in '08 ...... was insane running up to that too, but not quite at this level for everyday section .... some 'rarer'/heavier sections were over £3k a tonne then :(

Anyway, back on the compressor front.

I had a look online, there’s lots of choice! Probably too much choice….
I gave the guy at my local hydraulic hose shop a call, they are also general engineers and suppliers of this sort of thing. I know the owner and get on well with him, asked him what he’d recommend and to give me a price.
So we settled on this….

It’s Italian built, has a cast iron barrel and all parts are available, service kits etc. That’s the trouble with some of the Chinese stuff I think, when you need parts you’re fukced. Although this wont be used hard everyday, so don’t expect to wear it out any time soon!
18cfm, which was more that I was expecting and more than I thought was available from SGS in 240v, but I might be mistaken? And will be way more than our old one would have been producing I imagine!
Anyway, he was very competitive on price, delivered direct to my yard, no hassle. He’s local should anything go wrong and from what he tells me he gets good backup from his supplier too.
Seemed like the right choice to me.
If it last half as long as our old one then I will be very happy!

I've a fair few here ...... didn't leave my air manifold for the demo. guys .... fixtures and fittings weren't in the sale contract :giggle: they bought an empty 10,000ft2 building stood in an acre .. now't else :giggle::sneaky: ... 's why I have circa 3/4t of SWA sat on a pallet too :giggle::giggle:

IIRC Quatrromike was getting quoted well over £2k/t not so long ago for steel section :oops::oops:

Bought some 4" sch10 stainless steel pipe this week at £52/M 😶 that's £6K/Ton.
Mild steel UB this week around £1500/T.
Difficult to price jobs ATM, suppliers only holding prices for 24hrs. Sometimes takes me 48 hrs to send the price to the customer 😆

spring/summer '08 I was validating quotes for a max of 5 days only .... quote on a Monday, decide by Friday or re-quote as couldn't keep up with increasing steel prices ... wouldn't bother quoting at the end of the week, 'cos no idea WTF the steel rate'd be the following Monday ....... was a bloody nightmare :(:mad:
