Alot of people get upset when a shop/service says we don't accept, lets say £20 notes, so said person says it's legal tender and they can't refuse to accept your money. As a matter of fact they can they can ask you to pay solely in 2p's if they so wish.
They only place legal tender cannot be refused is when you use it to pay your debt that has the court order on it. So in this instance you could take them a mixture of all pound notes as well as English and Scottish notes and they cannot say we only want the amount in £20 notes only, they have to accept payment in any form so long as its legal tender.

.... but that's now't to do with it being legal tender ... purely down to choice of the seller ... at one time there were so many dud £50 notes in circulation I refused to accept them ... chances of getting caught were very high ... twenties were equally dodgy at one time, just not such a big hit - unless you had a fistful of 'em did you know that any seller/shopkeeper/etc. is not obliged to provide you with change, if you tender more than the asking/sale price of goods ... it is down to you to tender the correct amount ... the seller is providing a 'free' service by providing change.

That's what I said. Shops/services don't have to accept it if they don't want, but people think because it's legal tender they have to, as sid that's just not the case. But to pay a debt ie. a ccj the have got to accept no question.OK .. gotcha

Yes re the change, but people don't know and get arsey about it thinking they are right when as you say they are wrong. It's down to you to pay correctly.

Its just they have reduced the tax on fuel at the pumps by 30 centimes for the month of september then 10 centimes upto end of december.
