would folk hazard a guess at all this water based s**t we're all forced to buy/use these days having a lot to do with that?
I think it plays a big part in it. But your average car manufacturer can make it work....
I think it’s more to do with the prep, and the prep is probably more important than ever with the paints that they are forced to use.
As far as JCB goes, paint wise, some parts are clearly getting better treatment than others. Some stuff is getting a good coat of decent paint, other bits not so much....none of it is painted like the good old days, but they ain’t the good old days for nothing...Let’s also not forget that many of the smaller components parts, panels etc, will be made by suppliers who will also be applying the finish. Obviously the buck stops with JCB though, not denying that, but if an item passes visual inspection when it enters the production line, then there’s not a lot can be done at that point. But things can be done if issues are raised with the dealer and subsequently the factory.
let’s also not forget JCB are far from alone with their paint issues! Peeling paint is rife on many manufacturers plant, not just the yellow ones.
Ive had paint issues put right under warranty in the past, no quibbles, no fighting, it was sorted. In fact, every time I’ve had an issue that required a warranty claim, I’ve been extremely glad that it was a JCB and not another manufacturer.
