what have you cut thru ? copy what is already there ?
A reinstatement has to be better than what is around it as it isn't knitted into surrounding areas so tends to sink worse

well that really explains the sh1t state of the roads around here thenA reinstatement has to be better than what is around it as it isn't knitted into surrounding areas so tends to sink worse
Why would it sink if it’s backfilled properlyA reinstatement has to be better than what is around it as it isn't knitted into surrounding areas so tends to sink worse

It won't the problem is alot of the roads aren't built properly to begin with and the tarmac on top being a big Matt stops it sinking. Put a trench across and backfill the same as the road and in alot of cases it will sink as it's not tied into the surrounding area.
Also the other problem is slight voids under the tar each side as you excavate. These are really difficult to fill with type 1 and why a concrete reinstatement is better as you can pack it properly into the voids and the joints don't pull apar
Makes sense, often surprisingly little under them I know, upgraded cartracks. It won't the problem is alot of the roads aren't built properly to begin with and the tarmac on top being a big Matt stops it sinking. I've got a couple more similar jobs coming up but they are foot traffic only/occasional car.
I'm thinking about doing the tarmac reinstatement myself as it's not cheap getting a firm in for such small areas.
Anyone do this and got any tips? I don't have any experience laying tarmac myself but watched it enough times and it looks easy enough (famous last words).
What's it cost per ton to collect from a plant?
Hauc spec for reinstatment is 60mm base 40mm surface in the carriage way and 40mm base and 30mm surface in the foot way. When doing 278 works I've seen engineers ask for all sortsThought anything highways had to be put back as it came out so say 100mm base and 40mm tops you have to put back what's the thickness on the sides of your cuts
Where are you based ?? In the south east I could give you a couple of contacts of individuals that would come in save paying for a whole gang. Even given you some lessons. Tarmac is alot harder than it looks as you only get one chance unlike concrete that can be played with until it sets.
Also the compaction is alot harder than it looks.
