What’s everyone using for 3.5t towing?

Got an old Defender and a Discovery, served me well but theyre both succumbing to dear old rust.
I have a theory that I don’t really like spending too much on vehicles as they depreciate fairly quick and don’t really earn the money unlike plant.
But it’s catch 22 when you end up spending time and money keeping the old bangers going! What does everyone run for heavyish towing and has it stood the test of time? Disco 4? Ford ranger? Navara...

They dont earn money like plant....look at it this way. If you cant get your plant there then you earn naff all. They are a nessesity and id buy the best you can every time.

If your towing 3.5t then a truck ie iveco will blind any 4x4.

Iveco Daily, best 3.5 tonne tow vehicle out there imo.
But possibly a 5l V10 Touareg if you want some comfort (though I know nothing about them on a personal level).

Range Rover but it broke.:(
I can't decide what to get.
Land rover = constant repair
Land cruiser = £10,000 for 20 year old car
New pickup = £30-40,000
Van = not legal
Touareg= range rover levels of shitness (so I have read)
Currently driving a CRV and can't move my micro

its a bugger isn’t it. Iveco and Isuzu are all well and good but unfortunately useless for me as nearly always going off road somewhere- even something as simple as spinning a trailer round in a field etc.

Plus I like being able to keep tools all nice and dry and on board all the time- my disco is like a little mobile workshop- never without a tool and saves loading up every morning and eve or getting to the job and realising I’ve forgotten something.

I bought a VW Touareg purely for towing as it has 3.5 t capacity. could pull a house down and is comfy. In the Ideal world I will have a van that tows 3.5 next time I change, The VW is nice and suits as a work car also, but Id rather tow with the van.

Is it stable for towing? I know it’s all in my mind but something says that even though they’re up to the job it looks a bit funny turning up in one- kinda like your using the family car. But then I don’t think that about say a Disco 4, hmm, suppose disco is available in commercial as well which is more Tax efficient I think.

Itll go same places id go with the lux or rr with 3.5t on the back.

Its pretty stable to be fair, the only gripe i would have is the tow bar itself, it could do with an adjustable one, It 100% as long as the trailer is loaded proper ( like any vehicle i guess)
It has the power its a V6 3.0, fuel is pretty good, better than the transit, and is fairly constant even towing.

I use an Isuzu Dmax for moving the mini digger and the skid steer around. Granted they’re not the most powerful for towing but it seems stable enough with a correctly loaded trailer and tools in the back.

I fancy getting a cheap Toeureg, welding up the back windows like a van, putting some big chunky tyres on it and using it as a work bus tbh. I’m just scared of the potential bills if they go wrong!!!
