What’s everyone using for 3.5t towing?

Got a D4 for anything heavy, or if longer distance. Plenty of power/comfort etc. Doesn’t feel as planted on the back end as the Dmax it replaced but that’s probably because it’s on air all round. Used to have a mwb crafter van, that was pretty nice to tow with, also had gtw uprated so it could tow 2.8t.

Can’t fault it, isn’t used that often which probably isn’t good for it. The commercials look a good work tool.

In all honesty Matt, are you likely to get a tug working where you do? You’re just a farmer with a digger on the back and your local copper probably has ten towns to cover. I run a 2007 ranger, and with a remap it’s honestly the best and most practical tow vehicle I’ve ever had. The remap made all the difference.
Really like my new to me Iveco also and can’t wait to remap it too. But ranger ticks all my boxes for your kind of work even if train weight is 500kg short.
Does anyone else find that no truck has a high enough tow ball? I have to use ladder hitches on al my vehicles.

Come up here for a few days and you can try both trucks and every model in the towable bobcat range 🤣🤣🤣 plus loads of attachments.

I could really make use of a guy like you for a few days 😂

Yes he is 😂 Theres a fair cop shop close to where he runs out of.

trouble is normally a tractor would be the way forward, but he's some fair ground to cover.

Range Rover but it broke.:(
I can't decide what to get.
Land rover = constant repair
Land cruiser = £10,000 for 20 year old car
New pickup = £30-40,000
Van = not legal
Touareg= range rover levels of shitness (so I have read)
Currently driving a CRV and can't move my micro
But you don;t need to tow 3.5t? So pretty much anything will do! Crew cab tipper would give you tool space and a useful tipping body. Iveco tipper legal to tow 3.5t should you ever get a larger machine but any other tipper will tow a micro. But most of all, try sticking the micro in the tipper body! A set of ally ramps are a game changer. So much easier than towing.

2.4 ton would do for me but it's still limiting. I didn't think it was legal to tow with a van without taco, operators licence, other nonsense.
I would like a van but want to be 100% legit

Same rules apply with a van towing as everything else
Your own tools and equipment within a limited range and Ur exempt
And my two pence worth
A van far out tows any pickup
They are just better geared more comfy and more stable
Especially modern pickups that are primarily designed for carrying hair dresser kit

It is legal providing it’s not the driver’s main role (you are taking tools etc to and from the job where you will be using them on site to undertake the work you are paid to do) and you are with a 100km (I think) radius of your base.

Well if that's the case then a van will do for me. I'm going to run two cars because it's too stressful only having one banger.

These ramps weren’t! my little herbst trailer I used to have, They were 6ft long, slippery and same width as tracks and basically like a ladder with rungs wide enough to allow the idler end of the tracks to drop between them- dreadful design and would rather have loaded like your video if the tracks had been long enough.

this! I’d rather have two older ones than one new tbh. The wear and tear is spread so really the additional cost is tax and MOT, so probably only an extra £1k a year in running cost which is well worth it if it means the show can keep running when one of them brakes down.

Ramps are for people who like their excavators running gear...

The micro trackbase can't be much more than five feet. Would want to be a low trailer to do that with it.

I have two tippers, a pickup, a small van and a motorbike. And a camper van, but she won't let me use it for work....

Can't have too many options!

To be honest with hindsight I should have fixed my old shogun. Had it been anything other than the head gasket I would have. Last year in working condition it would have been worth £1500-2000. Now the same thing would be £2500-3000. I've never seen old cars go up in value so quickly. It must be all the exporters and covid.
