I think sometimes having the ability to leave a machine on a job whilst doing other things can be very handy. I currently have 2 on one job and still could do with another back at the farm.

If I keep both the handler and the 7-tonner between two machines, they need to earn me under 10k in 5 years..... so £1000 each a year or roughly two days each....... Both can do that on convenience alone. The 7-tonner also has the reality that it has an entire machine's worth of spares for my other 7-tonner. An engine rebuild these days will be around five grand.....
This too. And If I sold the Telehandler/175 to fund the deal, I would be paying Tax on the profit......
£2000 a year (it's less than that) cost isn't an issue and is worth the tax write-off. Likewise, keeping two machines and adding a new slightly different digger works well for me better than loosing the pair to fund something slightly newer.
The Sany deal worked because the Machine was cheap enough with the PX's and on 0% tick..... Unfortunately, the Sanys only work as long as I have complete faith in the dealer to see right by me as an individual..... something that TBH has been badly eroded this week.

I have despised every TAB boom machine I have ever driven...... However, I have a plan: if I stick-weld the boom together..........
All joking aside, second-hand with 1000hrs.... 2022 (I think). Thoughts on the Tab, If I'm honest I don't want a Tab, but it does theoretically bring the reach to a very close par with the TB175 and I suspect a wide set of steels might make it all bearable. I also would be making some boom markers to indicate when the boom was in my "happy place"..... Something you can't do on someone elses digger.

Same. It's a system that works very well for me too. Leave a machine on site and come and go as necessary in just the truck, running a few jobs at the same time has always suited me as can adapt to stalls on the job or weather whatever, waiting for materials. I tend to keep a machine in the two areas of the moor I work the most. That way they just go a mile or 3 to the next job and being the same hitch the attachments can go where required. If I had £35k I'd get far better value from 2 decent used 3 tonners than 1 new one. Although I'd like a new one too!

I took the implication was that more work was further coming as the machine was still on site etc
I also have multiple machines and leave them on jobs for a while saves the cost of moving them back and forth to yard and allows us to be flexible on jobs if we've a few jobs on

I used to be like that, as well leaving machines on jobs. But I've changed mindset now, I'd rather have fresh kit that I know will be reliable, and if I'm going to finance it'll be a different machine such as a tracked loader. I really can't see the point in having three nigh on exactly the same as a one man band.
When it comes to leaving machines on site, I'm sure it's more efficient to just get on and get the job done, then on to the next. But I'm a total hypocrite here, I'm terrible for not doing as I preach. I wind myself up when I need a machine and I've left it on site 'to save hauling the trailer home'.
It would go onto your income for the year, and that extra income would be promptly fully offset by the new machine cost. No tax.

Yes, but slashing tax on other income and also retaining a depreciating asset is better for me
With regards the "finish job and move on" logic for us it doesn't work like that. Some hires involve multiple phases due to site space or programming (I.e dig out for retaining wall, wait for it to be built, return to backfill). Having something that can be left allows us to do jobs like this without attempting to charge when we aren't there..... If we did charge we would loose the hire to bob the builder hiring a A plant digger..... Likewise continually charging the customer for low loader bills makes me look unaffordable and doesn't actually line my pocket
and my entire aim with work is to do as little as I can for the maximum return.On the Made or Saved....... Made is the answer.... The work wouldn't happen otherwise. It does theoretically save money on low loader shifts but the reality is they wouldn't happen as the job would not be economically viable. There is a caviat to this which is a 3t machine could mop up some of those jobs..... But I'd just be swapping a machine over again.

It's lucky to have a track as that's the one I found in my skip
other micro unusually is out on a long term so this one gets chucked over the fence to do this piss about job. Anyway if you can't keep a digger working with one track your no driver
Also notice the seat I've not fitted yet.
