The reality I suppose is somewhere in between.
Personally I'd like a plot of land away from others. Sorted...... Infact I'd really like to of been born either 200 years ago, or 500 years ahead..... either 1820's and be a sailor, or 2520's and hopefully we will be in space......
Present is a bit boring..... the majority of earth is charted.... what's not can be examined by satellite and the majority reached by chopper without issue..

The biggest issue we have is the concept of debt and interest..... This IMHO is where the Muslim faith has it nailed..... leading to friends and family lending money to each other to improve and flourish there community. Ever wondered why Paki's have nailed buying corner shops? It's not because they got grants, nor is it solely because of there work ethic..... getting money is easy as they don't tend to hoard it like others do.
Our society thinks it's acceptable to lend money to unsustainable causes and then get stampy feet when the inevitable happens. Watch the next recession.... it won't be the super rich that suffer.... it'll be the working man. Benefits Britain will still have there home, amenities and just go bankrupt.... the working man will loose everything. The only Plus will be the pretend rich who swan around in financed Range Rover Evoques (Freelanders) will be back on there arse.

Come up here I'll show you this could possibly be ratshit. If there's one community that has huge disparity between rich and poor it's "them lot". Honestly beyond a joke now. Every roller or Ferrari here is owned by a certain family or three... They'd screw their grandmother for a tenner. Most contractors work for them once...then get royally screwed. "People are the issue" about nails it. There are good and bad everywhere. Some will try and do the right thing regardless of religion, race etc but there are others, and there seem to be getting more of them, who seem to think the rules of civilsed society don't apply to them and unfortunately a lot of time they get away with it.
