I'd read it that the church portrays the image of right and wrong and simple basic morals that have gone so far out of the window we can't even decide what is good and bad anymore.

Religion is a good way of controlling populations, and I'm not judging either way, but if you look at the control religions have over people.

Reality is all Beliefs have a nasty side..... Be it Religious, Atheist, or even what you think of the world..... I don't like people at all, and fully believe we could do without a great deal of them..... the nasty part is that in itself can only really become reality by genocide or population control..... neither of which I would promote or be happy with.... My faith is in Jesus, not a particular brand of Christianity , and there is no nasty side to how he lived and taught, unless you count tipping over the tables of a few rip-off merchants in the temple or what was done to him. What people have done using Christianity as an excuse, that’s between them and their maker and I’m not in the business of either defending or apologising for what I‘m not responsible for. I'd actually be the first one off the cliff..... No bother at all, but the reductions would have to be justified and measured and that's where the issue rocks in...... Don't get me wrong, I do 10 commandments. Was talking about it with my pal the Jehova the other day... His view is he's Jehova as it makes sense to him and he properly feels most religions and other forms of Christianity are corrupted by greed. I really rate and respect that.
Anyway, all faiths/beliefs are responsible in some part for wars and genocide.

Apart from the rates/council tax, everything you’ve accused the church of can equally be applied to the BBC, NHS, police (world champions of letting their own criminals retire on full pension before they have to face up to what they’ve done, letting their own ranks literally get away with murder) every big corporation, farmers, social services, utilities, so are they all a curse on mankind? No, of course they aren’t. It’s down to how they’re run, and that’s down to people.
