Some old pics here out of Military Engineering 1962 - my mate has a hi q camera app so I got these done. The BK 50 was a half cu yd machine of USA origin, made under licence in the UK & the truck mount widely used by the RE on a couple of different truck chassis late 50s & into the 60s
The Allen Super Duty K was unusual in having only the single 66 hp truck engine, a vertical shaft through the slew ring centre sent power upwards from a PTO into the crane mechanism.
The 10 RB Carbody shows the brakes downstream of the clutches unlike on the Cub I mentioned here
I can firm up a bit on the Cub / Hydrocub / Beaver thing. The Hydrocub was a std universal Cub Navvy but with an added pump to run a ram altering the bucket angle on the std rope operated backhoe. (this was also an option on some 38 RB cable backhoes)
The Beaver was mechanically a Cub but with a three ram digging arm using hydraulics for all boom functions. At the time hydraulic motors were new & untried often failing. Word is that in 1960 Atlas showed an all hyd 360 hoe at Bauma. Priestman designers were there, came back & made tests showing that altering bucket angle improved performance by 35% - they rushed out the Hydrocub then the Beaver
