If its a bosch pump similar to what is used on dafs where the adblue pipe enters the pump, there is a small gauze filter that screws into the fitting once the inlet pipe is removed.

Thanks for the help so far fellas (y)

Took the top off the pump housing this morning and saw some suspicious looking crystallization as per photo, underneath the area looked gunked up too,and when you start truck up adblue is weeping from a stressed/crack in th plastic at the bottom highlighted in photo.

So that was easy enough to diagnose, why the spanner down at the garage could do a physical inspection to back up what his laptop said feck knows

Next job will be to see if the part is replaceable without buying the whole pump because it looks like it screws on as it a torque guide on the part that is leaking ? and whether the truck will run without it well enough to get my kit from the job we are on to the next where we will be for a week and then can work while it gets mended ?

Nice to see you have taken the time to investigate the fault beyond what the dealer achieved. So many people just take a fault code as a diagnosis

The second picture looks like the main filter housing, sometimes they are super tight when undoing them, perhaps its been stressed in the past, so you would like to think it should be available separately.
re the garage staff, it seems the same with any `hands on` job, a ever decreasing pool of top men and women who can do their job, and are good at it. You may of found one not in that pool.

Thanks for the reply....... I have zero experience of adblue systems but now you point it out it looks like it may be the bottom of a filter and screw off hence the nut and torque number on the bottom 🤔

I have contacted a company called alliance electronics - that refurb pumps ,(dont know who else to try ) hopefully they might be able to supply the damaged part separately - would be a brilliant result after being quoted 1900€

In the meantime I have disconnected the wires to this part of the pump so it doesn't empty the contents of the adblue tank all over the road and done few kms test drive, after 5minutes it realised what was going on and went into reduced power mode ..... bit gutless but it only needs to get a mini digger and dumper to our next job tomorrow on pretty flat roads and we are golden.

After the endless s**t weather we really need to keep going for all sorts of reasons.

The filter has a low torque setting stamped on them about 15nm or something? but you can end up using a 1/2 drive breaker bar to undo them.
A neighbour runs a fleet of trucks and he uses alliance electronics to repair components for him, and recommended them to me when I was having a problem with one of mine, with a dash board display problem, as if happened I found a bad connection in the can bus wiring.

That's it ... it has a 20nm setting on it.

Bit of an update on the adblue problem - the new filter housing came this morning - ordered monday lunchtime from Alliance Electronics (y) pretty impressive service - going to fit it tomorrow morning hopefully get the little truck out of limp mode - bit of a steady job trailing the plant about as is.

Anything I should know about the pipe fittings underneath - just so I dont bugger anything :)

look a lot like the klik fits that were on the Golf's fuel pump end of last year ... squeeze the tag and pull gently to disconnect ... got an O ring seal in 'em

Bit of first hand experience, not from books, YouTube or hearsay; get a plastic bottle with a nozzle, fill it with distilled water and squirt it all round the fittings, you’ll see the crystals disappear like frost off a window. Use plenty. Then nip the lugs on the fittings and work it up and down a bit, rinse it again and it’ll come off easily. If you don’t swill the crystals off you’ll never get the fitting off as the inside will be all crusted up.

If the filter is caked up with crystals, they’ll wash Out the same ways. Distilled water is your friend. Flood it.

Jobs done :)

Bit of a chew to do - and those little fittings are evil - (didnt get your post in time Bri)not only are they covered in crud but the part that you have to nip to get them off on all but the filter one sits inside the alloy housing of the unit making it a real faff to actually get some pliers on them - with access being really tight.

So it paid not just to cough up on the evidence of the computer at the dealer but rather use it as a tool to diagnose then have a look yourself, the guy at the dealer said they dont repair just replace so saved myself about 1800€ for 3 hours in my workshop.

All the lights are out on the dash and its out of limp mode ....hopefully thats its for a while and we can crack on....... we have had a fair run of breakdowns lately

Cheers (y)

Well done, and welcome to the future - at least until we’re running on hydrogen! Out of interest, how old is the wagon, and how much do you use it?

It just shows how dealers can be robbers the real question is what would they have tried to pin it on when changing the pulp didn't help
