Are little hookloaders uncommon over there ? Are there not companies that offer anything off the shelf?
And do the lorry's tend to come with a skip when sold.

Just as food for thought
Hookloader is becoming more common - quite a few companies buy chassis cabs and add the gear etc that's how I got the one I have - I then added storage boxes etc to it...but will be looking to get something all up and running and then add storage etc to make it easy.

Yeah its a shame I have to have a reshuffle of kit as it works great for 2.8t machine and I put a lot into getting it all sorted but the need to move my bigger machine myself is forcing my hand .... old boy that has moved my 8t for last 15 years is already past retirement and so is his wagon 🙂
and his son isn't really interested in moving kit about ...although he has a lovely wagon for the job.

Oh FFS don't start 🤣 tract/trailer same as uk in that respect - all the same sort of aggro and tbf for my work tractor and trailer isn't anywhere near as versatile ..the setup I have is brilliant, just need an extra 4t of capacity.

just asking ..... having seen all sorts trundling about over there in the many forays I've had to Froggy over the years ...
seem perfectly happy to drive RT cranes on the roads, with a moped out front for an escort at junctions
Got to say the French seem to have a LOT more road sense than you find in the UK and are 1000% more courteous to M/cycles over there ...
have had hundreds of French drivers get out the way when they see you coming up behind 'em/coming at them ...
pretty much the same all over Europe - with the exception of Hungary ... they were just a**e holes

You know that job in Cornwood you did- did you get your lorry up there- Martin's farm?
I never tried, but yes it would of got up there without much bother via either route.... although I'd personally favour the bridges.

A local firm around here had a 12t hooklift and have changed it for a new 15/16t, it uses the same skips HL5`s (I think maybe HL7), looks to be the same wheelbase, and couple of inches wider, not sure on its payload, but I`ll ask when I`m down there next.
Forgot about this, the truck they changed to was another 12t a new euro 6, 6 tonne payload vs 6.5 tonne of the older 12t, stayed with 12 t gvw to use the same model skip gear, a heavy chassis would need bigger gear and new skips.

I guess there must be a good reason why nobody uses ex military stuff to go contracting. But these trucks do look a mean weapon, low mileage and some have cranes or hook loaders. Always seemed a perfect setup to me, no idea how expensive they sell for though, its all POA

From memory they go for about 20 k upwards on brightwells...often thought the same.
There's a nice arb one knocking about.
One ponders what they must have cost the MOD new😳😳

A lot of the ex military stuff does not have type approval, so is a pain to get a plating certificate.
A lot the parts are unique to the military application, so dont have off the shelf availability.

IIRC the military have their own standard on the hook loaders, so any bins would have to be made bespoke for the wagon. Most of their wagons have heavier than standard chassis and bodies, so less payload. Years ago, there was a myth about “maintained to military standards” which was just that, and I’ve seen selloffs that wouldn’t pass a civilian MOT. If you did happen to pick up a bargain at the auctions, it was usually one that had been in the Reserve stock, and nowadays they don’t carry that much reserve stock, so it’s going to have seen some work.

Watched ashville aggregate on YouTube a month or so ago.
They bought military flat bed back for their hook loader and made it fit with a bit of cutting and welding

I think some of those trucks have silly gross weights aswell like 13 or 15t on an 18t frame making them the worst of both worlds
