Can’t believe it - I found this video in my YouTube recommendations On Friday. I grew up in the Fens just outside Crowland.
When I posted it, I seemed to recall you saying you where from the Fens, and started on the land before moving to plant

Great tune. (y)
An interesting choice of song.
Fortunate Son is about a 'normal' guy who isn't "fortunate" (rich/right family/etc) enough to avoid the Vietnam draft.
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no

Trump managed to avoid the draft five times.

That's not really the point.
Fortunate Son is a protest song about corruption at the highest levels of US Govenment (something Trump seems to embrace)

Playing Fortunate Son in support of Trump makes as much sense as singing Kumbaya at a Nazi rally.

bit of a waste
If they are machines that have been used for development / testing they probably aren’t safe to sell to the public.

I did some work with the Komatsu factory testing a high reach demolition machine years ago. They put dozens of strain gauges on the arm and then we gave it’s some serious abuse under controlled conditions, to the point we were all surprised it didn’t snap. It looked fine afterwards but I certainly would not want to buy or be legally responsible for a machine that had been so grossly overloaded etc.

Not safe to sell to public as a whole but Is it uneconomic to remove rams/tracks and motors etc ?

It's about economics.
A complete machine has a precise book value and can be written off against a tax bill without any argument.
As soon as you start stripping bits, the machine value goes down, but by how much?

Take for example the ECU. It cost about £9 to make, was sold wholesale for £45 then either goes into a machine or a dealers shelf with a retail price of £600.
You have this pristine, zero hour machine (with a precise value) and you remove the ECU. How much is the machine worth now?
It's obviously worth less, but hard to calculate. Once the ECU is out, you can't drive it, so moving it becomes a PIA.
As offencive as it seems to us, it's just easier for the company that owns it.

Another situation where destroying a virgin machine will probably happen is when Trump introduces his 25% tariffs. Machines built to US Spec (extra smoke, radio that only plays Country and Western etc). will be unsalable anywhere outside the US and won't sell in the US at the higher price.

I don’t doubt there were parts that could be salvaged. I don’t know what happened to that particular machine after it went back to their factory.

A company would also be risking a lot on the judgement of possibly a single employee regarding what can be salvaged and what should be scrapped. Saying that I have heard that JCB auction ‘used parts’ from the factory from time to time.

If you consider the overall R and D costs for a machine the cost of scrapping a few prototypes is small change and they just perhapse don’t want the risk of something biting their arse.
