Not safe to sell to public as a whole but Is it uneconomic to remove rams/tracks and motors etc ?
It's about economics.
A complete machine has a precise book value and can be written off against a tax bill without any argument.
As soon as you start stripping bits, the machine value goes down, but by how much?
Take for example the ECU. It cost about £9 to make, was sold wholesale for £45 then either goes into a machine or a dealers shelf with a retail price of £600.
You have this pristine, zero hour machine (with a precise value) and you remove the ECU. How much is the machine worth now?
It's obviously worth less, but hard to calculate. Once the ECU is out, you can't drive it, so moving it becomes a PIA.
As offencive as it seems to us, it's just easier for the company that owns it.
Another situation where destroying a virgin machine will probably happen is when Trump introduces his 25% tariffs. Machines built to US Spec (extra smoke, radio that only plays Country and Western etc). will be unsalable anywhere outside the US and won't sell in the US at the higher price.
