Ts420 wont start!

Tbf it was slight jest as u on about cutoff saws but I've been tempted to chip my mk1550 in fits of rage...well known issue.
Mk2 is fine tho @Monkeybusiness and @doobin will know what I'm on about

Had plenty of starting/running issues with both Stihl and Husky chainsaws (no personal experience of any cutoff saws of any brand though). Electronic carbs are essentially trouble waiting to happen - not sure if that’s what’s on the OP’s Stihl but you probably need a dealer plug in and reset if so…..

Turn the fuel off, get some WD40 remove air filter spray a bit in, see what happens.

I like carb cleaner myself, for that initial 'burst into life' .... lil' bas***ds usually run fine once they've had that 'initial awakening'

They’ve been around for 10 years plus in various saws now - Husky 560xp was the first. I bought one of the first into the UK and it was very very good (loads of power in a lightweight machine) but only when it ran - it was back with the dealer more than with me, total waste of time unfortunately.
Our go-to groundsaws then were Stihl MS361 (in my opinion the best saws ever made by anyone) - these were replaced with MS362 which were bulletproof but lacked the power and ‘feel’ of the 361. They always worked though, and I kept buying them for the lads until two saws (bought in a batch of 3 or 4) kept cutting out and generally being a pain in the arse to start. Turns out Stihl had gone across to electronic carbs on these, and the only two we had were total crap.
Husky’s system seems to have improved and we run 560 and 562xp saws as our go-to groundsaws now, but they do occasionally dick about and need a dealer update/reset (which you can’t do yourself sadly).
It’s all for emissions apparently - you can’t let too much CO2 into the atmosphere whilst chopping the planet’s lungs down!

The big Stihl has been electric carb for a long time but I don't think the ts410 and 420 have been updated yet.
Tbf they are pretty good. By the time ours get tricky to start they are generally pretty worn out in every aspect. They don't get looked after and just get thrown a big pile at the back of the workshop. When there are 5 or so sat there they strip them make two reasonable ones that go to gangs that don't use them much.
They hold there money well enough that you wouldn't loose much swapping them every year anyway. On Facebook market place they can be anything upto 50quid less than new
