Listen Dave, its whatever works for me that matters, I enjoy a challenge lifting awkward things into place, when theres an element of danger it keeps everyone on their toes!
The photos will be staying put and will not be getting deleted!!
I think all @DaveDCB was meaning is it may bring unwanted interest to your activities from the likes of HSE and insurance companies who like it or not also prowl the tinternet. We all do things that Heath Robinson would be proud of but some are best kept between them involved 😁. Our own insurance broker has in the past told us to take content off the net as it would have affected our premium if or when the underwriters seen it 🤫.

That’s all I was implying, this forum generates a lot of interest, only looking out for a fellow member... 🤷‍♂️

In all seriousness, I guess I used to think a bit like that and be proud of what I could bodge using what I had. But after a couple of close calls, when you start thinking what it would be like to tell your mates wife he's not coming back, or having the court take all you own, it's not so funny.

On a serious note @V8Druid am I correct in thinking that pushing/winching that load up is a grey area regarding LOLER as the load is not actually being lifted off the ground but is infact being winched

erm I’d probably delete them photos from the public domain if I was you 🤦‍♂️ If your local I’d give Mogman a call next time you need something lifting! 👍

not being winched Rory ... shoved up ... and yeh VERY grey  ... HSE would wipe the floor with you ... equipment not being used as intended, no check valves, etc., etc. .... got away with it, but could equally have gone horribly Pete Tong and as Doob said, someone might not have gone home :(... a carefully set up shear leg'd have been safer and far more controlled, plus the load would've been attached, at least ....... as said, I would not be leaving them up, but once on't net, nigh on impossible to delete
As Mog said ... we've all done 'certain' things, which in hindsight could well be of questionable procedure ... knowing when to keep stum is the trick ;) ........ and I'm not having a pop at anyone ... just commenting as someone who has lifted a lorrashit in my time

Would have thought no grey area, even though the load is not fully suspended in the air it's still being raised into position.
I'm sure the only exemption to winching would be dragging something along the ground, once the load is started to be raised then loler would come in

Does anyone use one of those mini articulated loaders like multione, Avant, bobcat sal in place of a dumper?

Horses for courses, the ones that can fit through a side gate only have around 125kg payload, so would lose out to a hi tip dumper if being loaded by a machine. I suppose the advantage comes in for being able to load themselves, run augers and possible pto for hydraulic tools.
But again for the size you could still get a self loading hi tip dumper.
I think once you get more of an open space they could come into their own depending on size.
American market seem to run more skid steers than small dumpers but again comes down to space available and application

Had a very very close call with a huge f**k up about 6 years ago, not going into details but I didn’t see it coming what so ever, just wham and could of been different stories for 3 of us, genuinely still keeps me up some nights ☹️, luckily we all walked away much much wiser and always look at the job in hand from a 3rd persons perspective(oh and welcome constructive criticism!!) . 👍🏼

I understand where you are coming from and there is an element of danger In every job that is carried out, every day, it is simply a case of using the best tools that are to hand at the time, in this case it was safer to use the machinery we had on site to perform the lift rather than someone seriously injuring their back.
There was also an archway on this site that was only 2m high, so that prevented us from getting in a hiab or crane, we were limited with options to be honest.
They pictures are tame, I have better ones than that! best not post them though!

I like the idea of the multipurpose nature of them. I wonder if they had a big enough bucket for nearly a tone you could load that with digger if you don't have space for a heap and so wouldn't be loosing anything you would get by using a dumper?

Too expensive for what they are imho. Buy a mini digger and dumper for the same price. I know what you're saying about multi purpose but they can't handle enough weight to be any use.
