They don’t normally drain unless you take the hoses off! Its possible the cooler has retained most of its oil.

That sounds like the most likely explanation Mick . I’ve highly likely over filled it now . I expect that the dipstick is correct and that the cooler hasn’t let go off it’s oil when I drained it and the dim light on the dash is probably down to a fecked pressure sensor switch.

Must say they are a real pain to get the oil level right when you have to fill them up via the dipstick! Long old process, rush it and you get a face full

The lower black part is quite loosely seated it looks like it also has a bit of fine wire around it. Maybe the connector onto the sensor is not in good shape .
Sensor 45 plus vat from local dealer so worth checking out the connector first . Is the black and red piece part of the sensor or part of the connector ?

Sorry for jumping in here
I have a 1997 barford 6t and it started to blow off transmission filter
Any help would be great as to what would cause this to happen
I now put a jcb filter back on to see if poor filter threads

Could have been blocked, or the trans cooler is blocked

First thoughts was breather, but can’t think where it is on them… but then they breathe out of the dipstick if they get that hot!
