Thwaites 6 tonne dumper transmission oil

I’ve just changed all the oils on my 2007 thwaites 6 tonne straight skip . Apparently it takes 18.5 litres of transmission fluid . When I drained it there was only about 10 litres in it but it was correct on the dipstick .
When I filled it back up it only took about 10litres until it was correct on the dipstick . Thwaites are adamant that it should take 18.5 litres .
I’ve just fixed a few electrical issues and my dash lights are all working and I now have transmission pressure light on . Manual says this points to low level transmission oil but it’s correct on the stick.
I’m starting to wonder could someone have put the incorrect stick in at at some point in the past.
Does anyone else have one ?
If so a length of the dipstick would be really helpful if possible.

If i remember I'll pull trans dipstick out and measure it, mines a 2011 but i doubt they'll have changed. It actually reminds me of the last 3cx we had here. If you went by measured amount it was always way above max mark and the dipstick wasn't stretched (they are basically a big spring). It must have had wrong length on though as after about 2 year you could see where it was v v slowly filing the bottom off the dipstick

That’ll be great if you can measure it up .
My flashing light wasn’t working and then horn packed in then indicators started playing up . It was showing all the signs of a bad earth and that was what I was chasing but I found that the fault was the 18v resettable trip fuse . As soon as a load came on it reduced the voltage supplied . All fine now as soon as I changed it .

What transmission does it have? I’m sure they had two options of manual or shuttle.. which Id assume would give two different oil levels

It’s a 2007 mach 565
The gearbox is semi auto . What’s the difference between power shuttle and power shift ?

Power shuttle is stick through floor and f+r on left hand stalk (shuttle) powershift is left hand stalk f+r and turn stalk for gears, quite a lot more money i would think rare as rocking horse......

I just called thwaites it’s a power shuttle . Denoted by a gearstick between your legs!

Powershift changes on the forward reverse lever apparently.

I wonder if the 18.5 litres is filling a dry transmission, when you change the the oil the torque converter remains full as does the oil cooler and pipes.

Worth putting a pressure gauge on the transmission to see if it genuinely is low or just a faulty sender or suchlike

Dipstick length on mine as you can see 700mm to max mark. Ok provided they haven't changed anything in the 4yrs between mine and yours. Interestingly oil level on mine when checked is up to where the spring starts.

It does say check it cold with engine off but I will try it running to see .
I put more oil in to the point it has taken 18L . It’s way up the stick now. It’s out on site today so I will check the dipstick length tomorrow.

Have you changed the transmission oil on yours ? Do you put the full amount in or do you fill it to the dipstick ?

No I've not changed it since i had it. It was regularly serviced (and not long done) before i got it off local hire company and it would be done as well as from service history it spent its life in Sellafield so it will have been a good earner for hire co.

Yes it should have a red top under the black plug, and getting back to the oil, if the cooler is empty also then there should be around 18ltrs.

Would the cooler drain down when you pull the sump plug ? I only got about 10 litres out of it when I dropped it so could the cooler not of drained ?
