Yeah, always proper oil. The problem is the oiler won't put out enough oil even turned right up for such a long bar. A 36" should really be on an MS660 or 880. But for occasional use it'll do for now.

Just finished replacing the burnt out dual mass flywheel and clutch in my Ranger with a single mass conversion. The whole kit cost less than the poxy dual mass flywheel did less than 10k ago, and it's already shagged. I replaced the clutch plate again in that 10k also!

Not driven it far yet but the clutch is noticeably heavier. I can only assume this means heavier springs- a bloody good thing in my book- it might hold together a bit better under load. Seems smooth enough pulling away.

New UJ for the rear prop also. Local factors raped me without lube- £38 plus the VAT!!!! Bastards. Second one needs doing but isn't as bad- it can wait for delivery, at only £11 on eBay:mad:

Some vehicles don't get on well with single mass clutch conversions.
What was the issue with the dual mass and clutch to fail at 10k surely it's covered under manufacturers warranty?

Had a go in a JCB 85z today not a bad bit of kit didnt really get upto anything interesting in it but was smooth to operate although to be honest took me a while to work out how to get the quick hitch to work and get the thing out of the limited eco revs wasn't too keen on the whole limited revs when quick hitch open. Biggest gripe was getting in it, the step in front of the door is tiny so struggled a bit

The revs when using the hitch, and the default to eco can all be sorted by a dealer engineer, you just have to ask for it. I’ve had the 2go system switched off on mine also.

I didn't mind the 2go system not been in a recent JCB before and took ages to work out the same button was to acknowledge the quick hitch. The older js from what I can remember were either a second button or having to press and hold a button on joystick.
It was a hire machine in site with a good 2000 hours on it and everything was still tight
The cab is a decent size and comfy didn't have the 3 piece boom on it like yours. Out of interest how is that controlled is it done automatically or do you need to operate it by separate control? Never been on one with one and always wondered

Left foot pedal controls the TAB (y)

The 2go system is fine if you sit in the machine all day long. But if you are likely to be in and out of the cab many times a day, it gets a bit wearing tbh. I could have lived with it, but took the opportunity to have it deleted when it was offered.

Once you figure out the 2go button doubles as the hitch, then it’s fine, I think there’s a sequence sticker in the cab?
That button still operates as the second hitch button on mine, and if you inadvertently hit it then it kills the controls and you have to reset via the left hand pod.

My machine now defaults to ‘Heavy’ mode, although I think it’s more that it just remains where you left it, so I run mine in Heavy at 1800rpm most of the time.

Think of all that chargeable time. Just don't want to do it every day.

Spenty yesterday tidying up this. Got the engine starting first pull (never seen so much grease and crap around a flywheel!!), removed the crappy fatigued tinwork holding the outlets on and just welded some C-section to hold it. Then changed a hydraulic return pipe that had almost rubbed through and ordered a filter. Re-mounted and adjusted the power on demand unit to get it working without dragging the linkage, and it now seems to work as it should. It's a weird balancing act cause the engine is never under no load, it's always pumping when the circuit is open.

I paid £250 for it. I need 30l/m to run my new handheld post knocker properly, so although JCB beavers are plentiful they're not man enough. Bit of a gamble but I reasoned a Honda engine is easily fettled or replaced with a copy. Larger powerpacks seem quite rare, or very expensive.

I tested the knocker and it knocked a scaffold pole into chalk! Very happy with it. Hoping the powerpack gives a few years of service after I've changed the filter and oil.

Finished off the powerpack refurb today by changing the hydraulic oil and filter. Not sure where the pressure guage is supposed to be. Previously it was in the red until the oil warmed up, then sat dead centre, between red and green, which I though must be normal. Now it sits at a quarter up the green. Guess this suggests that the filter was a little clogged?

Gonna get the rig out on site tomorrow and use it in anger for the first time. I've welded up some driving guides to match the size of poles we will be knocking.

Was it a pressure gauge, or a filter condition gauge? Is it on the return line, by the filter housing?

Yes, on the filter housing. Half red half green.

Then I’d think it is for indicating that the filter was blocked, and probably starting to bypass? Rather than operating pressure? I take it that the filter is on the return, rather than pump suction?

Judging by the engine note it was building more pressure when in the red. Oil didn't look too clever so glad to have changed it.

If it was bypassing wouldn't the pressure drop?

It has to build enough pressure to active the bypass valve, otherwise it would be too easy for the oil to bypass and not go through the filter.

Sounds like you’ve done it one of the biggest favours it’s ever had! Nice job (y)
