Been rock facing this riverbank over the past 10 days. Half the job (literally) was just getting access track put in and bringing the stone in as awkward access for about 600meter.
The bridge was about to get washed away- another year and I reckon it would have gone. Been quite a job for my poor old TB125.

Thanks. The bit under the bridge is rougher than id have liked tbh but was max lift capacity of digger at full stretch and trying to post them in under neath the bridge without knocking the dodgy abutment was hard enough without worrying too much what it looked like!

That's the one. Yeah severely undermined- could wiggle my arm right underneath the concrete slab. Not surprising as the slab was sitting on a bed of soft peaty s**t with a bit of gravel they'd chucked in before laying the slab. Apparently done by the Royal engineers as a training exercise back in the day.

In the end I dug out as much of the underneath to deepen as I dared- pushed a large slab like rock underneath with the digger to keep it propped up and then made a good stiff concrete mix so I could pack it in underneath. The boulders now protecting it are all dug down to bedrock and backed with concrete too so hopefully that should do it.

Wowsers but no doubt very much needed.

I shudder to think of the waste and crap that will be spent on this.
National infrastructure like this should be prioritised and treated like a war project...no nimbys ...once the site and project decided crack on...sod pointless surveys it's gonna be flooded anyway

This has been on the cards for a long time, Walters will likely be involved in it. They were gearing up for it 20 years ago when i was there
