Provided access for demolition and then just for a roof during building over winter. Much of it is a cantilever to allow room to dig the footings.

Apparently it cost around a grand. I’d say that’s cheap to allow easy all weather working over the winter!

Got the last ones out today…digging a big hole down the backside of them makes the job nice and easy, could only do it on a handful of them . Tidy up day tomrrow and hope the fella still wants them

Sigh. 4th day back at work and first van breakdown. Clutch gone on 63plate transit (service engineers van). My old 11 plate is the standby-so all my kit out onto the floor and then a roadside swap over before me and the apprentice recover the 63plate back to garage. Hopefully new clutch and DMF over the weekend and have it back Monday. Record of sub 30minutes for a complete van empty. Over the last 2 years I have switched back to tool boxes so my stuff can go from van to van or van to floor pretty easily. When I had a dedicated service vehicle it would take me near half a day to empty it.

I do have tilt sensors but to be honest I never really use them. They work great, I just find that I don't need to use them. And because of the way they mount on the EC02 and how venerable they are - I never end up fitting them!

Drove the landrover off road course at peckforton castle today, a free event which you get when you buy a landrover.. Didn’t expect much, but it was a brilliant experience! It really shows what these things can do! Hands down pee over pickups etc, the tech in the defenders/discovery’s is immense! Some of the pictures are 40degrees side angle. If you ever get the chance to go on one, go for it!

I think you’d do it all yeah, but with no finesse by comparison.
I went in thinking I’d do most of it in the Hilux… I’d say 90% doable in a pickup but you’d ground out on the worst bits and the approach angles were far too steep for pickups (you’d be thundering into the bad bits to allow the momentum to carry you up etc) pictures don’t do it justice.
Good fun, and fair play to landrover for putting up £1mIllion+ worth of cars to show customers what they can really do! Don’t think many manufactures do that?

It’s a big sales exercise - a lot of people go there before buying. They used to run an all white fleet but have moved away from that as the cars end up being retailed after a few thousand miles off-road and none of the dealers dared touch them!
A mate works there and recons brake pads only last a few hundred miles on all of the vehicles. They are very good off road but only because of traction control, and they aren’t designed for prolonged use (just really for getting on and off fields etc). You probably wouldn’t want to try and cross the Sahara in one…
It is a great day out though, I did it officially a few years ago and have also been around the course a couple of times in my own Landy when we’ve cleared windblown trees off the course. Hilux would piss it in reality.

I think with Land Rovers standing in the reliability charts they have to show they can do something most cars don’t. I am told they run 2 fleets of cars at Eastnor Castle so they can service them between morning and afternoon customers!!

It's kind of cheating as well designing a course from scratch to be exactly what the vehicle can handle. Bit like the big arch they drive over at the shows. Exactly perfectly designed for there vehicles. Any manufacturer could do the same and make it look impressive.

I think it’s more the fact that none of the others even bother to do it! Plus you’re hardly going to design a corse your vehicles cant do, bearing in mind your chucking members of the public straight into it and pretty much hoping for the best! Lad that came with me had never seen a muddy single track lane yet alone a rock garden etc.

Ref the brake pads, they are being chewed up massively on the traction control, you can hear them going wild the whole way around. Fella told me the Range Rover was every 6 weeks at £800 cost!
We did a impressive 4mpg fuel economy too

Hats off to a British company that employ a shedload of folk and pump billions into the economy who have absolutely nailed a market segment...their sales figures don't lie however much we dislike the end product.
Personally I'm a fan for what it is...a 5 seat 2.5T tank that will do 5.4 sec to 60 carry a crap load of stuff and pretty capable off-road and handles the 2ft of water we get on our lanes and if some twat decides to spin into my Mrs she's a chance of coming off the best.

I made the decision paid the dough for them for the last 6 years ...does that make me dick? probably but there you go

I nearly bought 1 when all the bs was going on in 20, but thought a bit pricey at the time! Hindsight a wonderful thing!
