Get that all the time. A right pain in the arse. You spend good time looking discussing and then quoting then suddenly they change their mind about something and what you to go back and discuss all over again. Fair enough the first time but feel there should be a way of mitigating having to do it a second time for free. Its the public/council works that are the worst- because they only work 9-5 it's not like you can just drop by at a convenient time on the way home etc, so more lost time before the jobs even been confirmed

Just want the whole thing explaining again and again! I do feel sorry for them as the previous builder they had do the extension has made a real bodge of it and pushed the project spend way over budget!
I told them I’d do it on day rate plus materials at cost, but I’m starting to think a whole price would have suited them better as they don’t seem to like the uncertainty of it all!
Reminds me of why I keep away from these small jobs and would rather do my own builds to sell!

My usual one on domestic jobs …you’re about 20% over our budget is there any part of the job you could knock off I suggest 20% less paving/concrete/steel and leave 20% more muck on site….I’m sure we can get under budget. They look at me like I’m the knob head

I've tried to stop going out to do site visits especially for all the small jobs, can do most of it from pics and measurements or rough areas of Google earth. Get a few less wasters and saves 1+ hour by time drive there and go through it all. If it's something more involved I will go out but tend to give a rough estimate before hand which still doesn't quite weed the dreamers/idiots out.

Started with 1.5 and 1 as access was tight, wouldn't really touch it so shot off got 3 ton squeezed it in but going to need ripper or breakers.

Going to insulate it and put it in shallow as bed rock at about 500mm or more not feeding a trough for heritage grazing in warmer months.

Been installing a waste treatment plant, got it in and mostly backfilled, sample chambers are mega expensive at £300 ish, so made a home brew one consisting of a 320mm manhole and a few risers and a lid for £60 ish

Going to insulate it and put it in shallow as bed rock at about 500mm or more not feeding a trough for heritage grazing in warmer months.

It will freeze where it comes out of the ground anyway, so i wouldn't worry about being a bit shallow in places

We lag them with armacell insulation where they go in and come out the ground. It’s the good stuff they use on aircon or bar lines,

This won’t be turned on till cows go in April 24th every other year

My first thoughts.. but not for me to comment looks pretty horrible digging, back ache inducing!

I know let’s bury the old cow stalls in the 10” thick c40 concrete, it will really help strengthen it up.. or just annoy the fella who’s digging it up 20yrs later!
