When you say grapple, do you mean one which has an independent ram for opening and closing Vs a braced against the arm arrangement. I've had all 3 and find the hydraulic thumb the most versatile and convenient by far. If your fiddling around picking up stuff like bricks then yes a grapple (like the pic on the 216) is easier as you have the full articulation of the bucket. But again, it's another thing to take to a job and requires changing to it when you need it.I gave serious thought to getting the hydraulic one when I got the case, decided against it in the end, can't remember the specific reason now
The job I was doing the other week got me wanting a grapple, picking up a couple of bricks at a time with the thumb was far from ideal, but picking them up by bucket also wasn't suitable. There was a point when it suddenly clicked in my mind 'ahh right, this is why people go for grapples' but again I can't remember specifically what it was![]()
