Forgive the no doubt very basic question but what sort of spec do you promise when doing a job like that? Tolerances for flatness, fall etc.

My spec is ‘it’s probably better than before I arrived’

I've done a fait bit of prep for tarmac over the years so we set up with laser and try respect the falls needed if you were tarmacing even if its just gravel, its pretty good practice in general and I figure that if at a later date they want to tarmac then prep wise its a relatively simple reprofile and compact etc.
Where its not possible, like the little job in photos then I discuss with client the issues with falls and what is doable, in that particular job the fence/gate and garage were too low with respect to the road so if he still wanted to get his van in there then it was what it was falls wise, we discussed drainage etc and came to the best compromise within his budget/requirements, also we were working over some old footings that he didn't want taking out so we had to be content with a bit of crossfall in one area , I think its just a case of the customer understanding you had given the job due consideration in respect to falls and drainage.
Regarding flatness then we work to the laser (idig sometimes nowadays) and tbh its usually pretty decent
If you can get a nice constant grade across a job in both axis then it usually looks the part, but not always possible.

Regarding depths, I have my usual ideas for various aggregates and adjust if needed but guarantee it won't turn to s**t.

What capacity is that?
A 12tonne rated on on a pond job was really impressive, the ponds where going onto ground that was too wet to go on unless it was the middle of summer, and the dumper besides leaving prints off the cleats didn`t leave a mark, get out of the cab, and you where lucky not too sink over the top of your boots. It was also quick, it was only a short haul to tip, but a wheeled dumper wouldn't of been any better, if it could on moved on there.

This is rated for 11t, the wheeled dumper was starting to chew the ground up and leaving massive ruts. Luckily the client is paying the extra as its a 133% increase on the rate

Around 200L in a 8 hour shift in hard going. Big Cat engine in her. That said she will move when nothing else will. Had her driving on pure s**t at the start of last year that the digger would only just sit on.

Then marookas impressive...did a load of "field "improvements" with one for a mate one crimbo. Could hardly stand up in the field but marookas just chugged through.. not as big as that I'd have said about 6-8t.

Building a carpark of a fairly decent size with the Haulotte. Parking area is approx. 65m x 12m with 50m access road. Bit of a Civil Engineering job with a lot of details as to the finished job with regard to maintaining existing drainage lines across the site while adding a 3% crossfall where less than 1% existed before. Excavated 170 cubic metres of compacted and rocky material and relocated it onsite nearby to raise ground above flood level. The pic with the 200mm pipe shows the soft boggy ground that's being raised and drained.
There's also a road around the site in which I've placed 600mm culvert pipes over a drain to improve access where I've also used the excavated material.

Next 130 tonnes of 40mm roadbase to grade and compact followed by 150 tonnes of 20mm roadbase to grade and compact to finish the job.
I've subcontracted out the 15m concrete driveway entrance bit of the job. I'm not a concreter and the traffic management required is complicated.

We’ve been at wentworth castle where we got the site shut for a month to Rework the car park.

Before Xmas we were meant to scrape 20mm max of the sandy wearing course off. Some places we took 150mm of the sandy clay type mot shite. Soon as disturbed and wet no chance of using it. Meant to be 40 took 200 tons off.

Back now to do new fencing and bays, rework green area and few other bits.

Green area sat on 600mm of beautiful rock hard Derbyshires finest limestone couldn’t make it up. Car park covered in shitty sand clay yet under it is 300-600mm best mot.

Done nothing but rain, lads whinging as on site cafe shut and hire places didbt have any welfare cabins so been slumming it under canopy of welcome building but cold and wet, now looking for a welfare trailer.

Had to pop back to other job as 200mmx200mm oak posts we’d put in for ev chargers were big enough for them so had to Jerry rig these with no notice.

We had big storm last night took out two huge trees near where we are working, chucked the 088 with 36” bar in this am but the rangers weren’t keen on letting me stock up on firewood

Has to cut some impromptu Swales in to try ease some of the water away

They work a treat pull cord locks into them etc real nice way to finish a duct off better go buy a box of them

Nothing ontop the surface is firm and most the sand has washed out now, down the bottom corner we’re it drains to I took out 450mm of solid sand before getting down to the stone.

Cut some relief swales in that go into woodland then ha-ha behind which feeds into serpentine

Yeah got the big lazer light bar as well but never fitted it with stedi 31.5 lower snd lazer grille not needed it lol, just bought a v6 though so will be switching grill and wheels and think on v6 will fit the big lazer on a roof rack type setup
