Funny weather today monumental rain then hot sun then rain, started screening the spoil pile with the new Lloyd screener, soiled up the splay, talked them into a name stone in the wall one of the ones we dug up. Then sprouted a stream from blocked gulley in road.

Apache did a flyover
Tidy walling 😊

Well arrived yesterday and another inch of rain over night, ramp dug out and sump in and 600 litres of water pumped out and the remaining section of type1 dug out and mixed cement through and compacted down again, if the weather holds out might get the rest of the type 1 that was delivered down on monday

It also makes a massive difference if you seal the type 1 piles over every night.
Only needs to run a bucket over it but it makes a massive difference to how usable it is after a week sat there

You boys got some poor quality type 1, provided its a heap more than 7 or 8 ton it's no worse for getting rained on here.

I don't think it's anything to do with quality as I find all type 1 is better off for being sealed in. And not having quaries anywhere near us we get all sorts of type 1. Can get different types from the same supplier in 1 day.

You need moisture for compaction if its bone dry straight of the screener it doesn't bind and when you grade it the fines drop through and you end up with big loose stone on the top. Of the 2 quarries nearest me I'll only use 1 as the other has too much dirt in the type 1 and turns to sh*t when wet. I actually like to get type 1 delivered before I need it of there's room on the job so it gets a shower of rain or 2 on the heap before i use it (hopefully).

We don't seem to get the problem of type 1 being to dry. Again as we have no quarries everything comes out aggregates yards and gets sprinklers constantly in the summer. Occasionally we will spread it and leave sprinklers on it for a little bit before compaction. But if left unsealed in torrential rain sometimes it gets so wet the wackerplate or roller is sinking.
Although on the nrswa course you have to knock up the type 1 with water in a barrow before using it. You can can also get a fail on a highway site if reinstatement material isn't covered in a tarpaulin in wet weather and hessian in hot weather to keep it moist.

The 18t that is sat on the road is sitting on 6 8x4 sheets of ply not really got the space to seal it can get to one side of it as path on one side and the remaining side of the lane on the other. Not really had the issue before, the type 1 in the excavation was compacted solid and still went to mush, whether the stacked type 1 was sealed or not wouldn't have made any difference

Tbf had some quarried limestone 6f5 on a job once and it came wet through, was useless for a while, regraded it once dry, after it dried once it’s absolutely rock hard!
We Always cap off 6f2/6f5 with road plannings or type1/asphalt!

Most jobs I've been on the engineer has specified a blinding over any 6f5 used. Also depending on the quality of the 6f5/pickyness of the engineer then a 50mm blinding of type 1 works out cheaper than the potential waste of concrete.

For the 75mm and down what's the minimum size Wacker that would be needed?
Not sure on the savings and too late for this one, but generally use quarried type1 for ease of compaction as the excavations are generally too small or odd shaped to get a small roller in, especially by the time a ramp is made into the area.

The only time I use anything less (little petrol) is if it's absolutely pishing it down and ground underneath is soft and ur just trying to knock stones in and leave a smooth top when it dries out.

I've used a 100kg Wacker on that size stuff with success. If you get it good with the digger before hand the Wacker will still consolidate it.

@JD450A will have a fit- but the bomag pedestrian rollers are handy for this. @ 500kg they are heavier than most Wackers and still light enough to lift in position etc. I don't have a problem with them myself- but everyone else on here seems to think they're the work of the devil😂

Got one myself for areas bigger than can't be arsed to wack but not worth getting 120 roller onto job for. I don't use it enough but tbh by the time you've took the wacker for the edges and corners half the time I just carry on with wacker as ped roller is extra hassle to take to job with you.

According to hauc spec the size of Wacker plate doesn't matter. The smaller the plate the more passes required. I haven't got the book Infront of me but can find the table on Tuesday. From memory I think large petrol plates are about 7 passes at 100mm layers. Rollers ped or twin drum are 4 ish.
The frequency of the vibrations are as important as the weight.
