First little outing for my 1 ton thwaites
Customer on holiday and told me to come and go as I please, more the merrier, so I dropped it yesterday and cut it up until I could get the tyres out. Then went back today with the dumper, 3 trips (very carefully) across the wringing wet field to the bonfire pile with very little trace and 3 down to the log shed with some decent fire wood

Going to knock up some greedy boards from 8x2 tomorrow, I can see a lot of this type of work for this dumper. Lightish bulky loads, kind of stuff that would normally get done with a quad bike and trailer- but why would I want to handball stuff out as well as in

went (or tried) to look at some jobs today, first to to tidy up round some fishing lakes where we worked 20y ago - anyhow we spoke first thing and that got canceled as they were pretty much flooded from nearby canal, other job had to take a diversion to get to and on the way passed a lads house who i know who has being doing a lovely job of a reno and anyhow water has come flooding across the fields from area above and washed the hamlet out a foot above the threshold of his doors when I passed.

took a look at next weeks job to see if I could get my head round getting rid of the water, old farm with huge buildings and no gutters/drains .... Tbf its a great time to see worst case scenario and what runs where.

Took the bike to this one to have a bit of a play on the tracks,trees out everywhere with last nights wind and saturated roots, good turning practice

Finally got two more cameras up. All rooms covered. Also added two extra smoke alarms, one in the kitchen (where the batteries are charged) and one in the tractor shed, all linked to my phone alarm.
Plus unloaded the trailer, cleaned the forwarder, milled a load of 4.8m cladding for the farm manager to make his lambing area more watertight and a whole load of other stuff.

Good stuff.
Our CCTV has just earned it's keep again.
DX driver backed into the new insulated roller door.
Send them 30 seconds of footage and they pay up no problems. Wouldn't own any type of commercial site without it. Or domestic for that matter .

I'm assuming you rent the building? What sort of cost/size is it?

While tipping brash on the bonfire at my tree job earlier I had a look at the trenches I quickly pulled a couple of weeks ago, all flowing nicely- rapidly in places. Never going to get wetter than it is now, so ideal time to see where to dig some more when it's dried out, trick will be remembering
Dad had a good day at the auction, 8 sadleback weaners £22 each!

I'm assuming you rent the building? What sort of cost/size is it?

Embarrassingly cheap for this area and I have the run of all the concrete areas too but basically I’m useful. I think the main building is around 25m x 8m (it’s a grain store not used any more)

Like today. Farm manager decides he wants to replace gale breaker curtain in the corner of the barn with something more solid. A couple of hours later he has a stack of 4.8 weatherboards. I supply the farm pressure washer, the security cameras and alarm, the forklift, i fix stuff when it breaks. The Multione is always handy for five minutes every day feeding tight areas. Etc.

With the rental, it’s the Same for us, we rent, buy actually only about 150 sqm of inside space, but have the run of the same again undercover and a lot of outside room for parking a dozen vehicles and our large portacabin and 16 yard skip and Costs me £800 a month.
They are building new units nearby and I worked out that to move there would cost us another £20k a year 🫣
Our place is shabby and the pot holes are deep, but I’ll take that over having to find an extra £20k a year any time.

My landlord runs a skip business and an MOT garage. We try to help each other out and I think it’s beneficial to all of us.

Now that is a win win for you with the firewood
And I love the fact that your 'new' dumper has a good seat. First thing that I did on my 1 ton Terex dumper

Firewoods not for me, but it's a bonus for the customer The main win is that the tree came down in a controlled fashion, not crashing down on his classic merc that had been living near it until it dropped a 6inch limb
The seat is pretty good, a lot newer than the dumper, and with a bit of oil yesterday morning it all moves nicely. Thinking about upgrading it for something with folding armrests though, for the long runs at jobs like this
