More flavour's what you call a re-bore ....... honing leaves a little to be desired though

This is the huge project thats taken me weeks!
had another full day and despite the biblical rain yesterday night we cracked on.

makita is dead,not had it all that long and as you can see by our dodgy looking chip heap its not our real job had it in bits to dry and its not helped 
will buy the same and keep for spares, im invested a bit with the makita batteries...

I've had the same one for 8 years now and damn thing won't give up! Id have liked to go over to makitas 40v system but as you say it comes at a price changing batteries!makita is dead,not had it all that long and as you can see by our dodgy looking chip heap its not our real job

Did it get a soaking, or just gave up randomly? I rarely use mine but think it’s a good little saw whenever I do.

I swapped my bar for a little 10 inch and it's great, anything bigger than 8" and it's a bit overwhelmed anyway. Although I did fell a 2ft diameter beech once with it- poor little thing didn't like that,!

it got fairly wet I reckon - and yes its been a really handy saw - take a punt on another I reckon and use a sthil in the rain.

Is it the saw or the batteries. Some twat kicked my impact into the bottom of a water filled chamber. The impact was fine but it killed the battery. Bit s**t as Makita are now the most expensive batteries. When I started buying kit I chose Makita as it was cheaper than Milwaukee. Unfortunately not the case anymore

I guess it's no bad thing running 2 brands if you use alot of power tools. Keep one for home and one for work or whatever that way you can choose the best tool rather than being tied to a brand

I've been makita since I started 20 years ago, over the last few years I've been buying m12 milwaukee, then m18- started with a 1/2 nut gun, then the big pole saw, combi system, grinders, drill, nail gun, stapler....
Now I've got enough of all 3 types of batteries to buy whatever I prefer, tool wise
Not a cheap exercise but so worth it

I run mostly Dewalt 18v/54v stuff (20v/60v stuff if you’re American) and also a few bits of Milwaukee. I also supply all the power tools to our 7 installers/engineers and they are about 50/50 mix of Milwaukee or Dewalt.
Both makes have different highs and lows. Dewalt are ahead on carpentry, Milwaukee on mechanics tools.
Dewalt offer more low end stuff, but at the higher end the quality and durability seem comparable on the tools and the batteries.
Dewalt 54 kit is a real game changer. I ridiculed it when it first came out, but the fact you can use the 54v batts in the 18v stuff make it more flexible and appealing.
I have the 54v dewalt chainsaw and it’s surprisingly usable with a good chain. As with all cordless stuff, keeness of the blade becomes much more important with cutting tools.
54v concrete saw is a well handy tool as well, not a replacement for a 14” petrol but an excellent choice for the small quick jobs that we do.
