I use Travis Perkins for all quarry agg , they use all the local owner ops - literally all of them, so you know someone decent is coming. They love a early drop so I’ll tell them 7am and they always show for then bonus is they are cheaper than any of the local small firms who don’t care for the odd load here and there!

That surprises me. Would have thought buying through TP would cost quite a bit more than buying direct off quarry and organising own haulage

I see them around. They must get it from Glendinnings though? Tbh I don't really like limestone that much, find slate packs in tighter and less likely to displace over time. Colour is more inkeeping with moorland grey too

Glendennings, Moorcroft, Stoneycombe, claypits.... Wherever.... Can get whatever you want or will just supply the wagons on hourly.

Yeah your spoilt for choice down your way. It's Glendinning or Mill hill here. Did have some granite 803 from Cornwall way a while back- won't be doing that again- worst 803 ever.

Buying power, another advantage of it is if I wanted 1000ton a day they’d just sort it for me no bother.

Clay granite or proper granite ?

Clean. From Goonvean. Might be fine for a subbase or other covered use. But for a while it was the required spec by alot of official bodies up here for tracks and footpaths- there theory that being granite it was in keeping with Dartmoor. The reality is it turns bright white- stands out like a sore thumb but it's too loose to stand up to any surface water on it- just poor binding. I don't mind using locally dug Growan (decomposed granite with a clay content) for paths, it can still wash out easily enough but with a decent camber and other drainage provisions it goes absolutely solid.

Dealer came out today and plugged the E27 into the laptop. The reason for the super slow rotate was aux 2 flow set on speed 1. Upped it to speed two- that's where the old one must have been all it's life! So upped it to three and will see how I get on, the proportional control is good. If I really don't like it I'll get them to dial it back to 2 at first service.

Had some ash to cull today. Nothing bigger than 12”. Got my old 254xp out, couldn’t find the Aspen2. One of the lads has taken it out on site. Knew dad had some so over to farm. Got saw fuelled up. Fired up. Blades blunt. Forgot I used it last on plastic oil tanks and bounced it off concrete slab. My file needs replacing so didn’t try sharpening it. Needs a new chain really. Second one since 1999. Got the new yellow one out and felled 2 trees and delimbed with 2 6a batteries. Pretty impresssed with it till I ran out of 54v batteries. Remembered dad has a saw with new blade. Then remembered what life is supposed to be like! Noisy and FAST.
Yellow one will stay in van, very handy for the odd cut. Doubt I’ll be getting it out to use in 25 years time like my old Husky though.

I've a 254xp, it locks up solid after a little use. Won't go again til stone cold.

I'm not a chainsaw person and used extremely little, so it's just dumped in the shed and extremely low on the list of sh1t to do.

Mine did about 6 months of daily work when I tried a career at forestry/hedge laying at 19. Not done much since then apart from a few cube of firewood and a LOT of oil tanks. Pokey little classic saw. Runs well, but invariably will cut out when your finger comes off the throttle from full chat. Might be time for a service! - mine has probably only ever been touched twice for maintenance apart from cleaning and blade sharpening. Yours will sell on ebay for spares and repairs fairly well. Saw a running one advertised for £350. Mine was the most expensive thing I had ever bought at the time, my first ever Hire Purchase. Think the saw was about £450-£500 with the vat back in 1999.

Did you deal with Barbara?

Use a small firm 2 x 6 wheelers but great guys and suits our Peak District needs, use Travis extensively over the years, Buxton limestone best stuff going. Had some sh1t mot from maltby on current job, so much dust and turned mushy then got some Buxton limestone. Night and day difference.
