that seems to be quite close to the dwelling ? is there rules to say how far etc ? i like to get the plant / tank as faraway as poss ,or was it not possible ?
Thought someone might mention that :)

We follow a plan drawn up by another company and then I crept away a bit further, as you prob know governed by falls and depth of tank, ground all rises up afterwards to the field at back ..its all a juggle to get the best compromise, tbh it prob looks close than it is and its closer to the single storey washroom than the house.

10.5m3 in today, 60m run all in the drizzle

First bit out the barrel was all stone clogged the pump at 4” to 3” reducer 20 mins of hammering pipes etc to get it to flow

This weeks mission was working for an old customer of ours to split up the water supplies on the farm he is dividing and selling. Original 1950s Alakthese supply comes from the end of the SWW line about 1/2 a mile away, then feeds his place, then the house next door that has sold off, then a shed, then a trough, then a sub metered connection for another place half a mile away. All soft copper tails to the stop taps. Flow rate isn't very impressive! Found some 1920 era 1.5" Steel Pipe which I think is from a hydraulic ram supply, plus some 1" Steel which I think would have been a pumped well supply. Lots of test pits and insertion of the sensor to try and find the route and locate and cap off the tees underground as the troughs and shed having to be decommissioned then new separate lines pulled back to a set of sub meters, Customer is nearly 90 and keeps coming out and trying to fall in the holes whilst smoking his pipe. Quite enjoying this one as making us think. One of the tees was almost under the boiler, sandwiched between china sewer and 2 steel pipes. Luckily only 8" deep at that point.

Does it not reach the point where just installing all new (and leaving the legacy pipework in the ground) is more cost effective?

We have replaced a few sections, but the whole route is about a 3/4 mile long and crosses multiple properties/concrete yards/under newer buildings and water ways and roads :) By installing 3 sub meters its now possible for the master property to check figures to ensure that the primary supply not leaking and monitor there own usage and the other distant sub metered property will now become responsible for the main run of the legacy line. The adjacent property has had a new line fitted back to the sub meter. Most of the neighbors have boreholes as South West Water wont supply to this area.

Also this scope of this job has crept a bit, was originally just to add a meter to the sold place.. but then solicitors and estate agents got involved and we discovered taps and troughs that needed deleting. Water regs dictates that dead legs should be no more than 300mm so needed to trace back to where it tees off the main line to comply. Water Regs also say it should be at least 760mm deep.. but no point dropping to that depth when the existing line is shallower. 300mm is enough to keep frost away here.

I'm surprised they are allowed. We had a similar job but had to run 3 new pipes across the fields as Thames water wanted new meters to each property sited on the highway. So the farmhouse retained the original pipe with a meter fitted and the barns got a new line and meter each.

I did speak to SWW first but they were not interested. It would have been much better, but 1000m of road trenching and across a bridge/river would have been a juicy job I imagine.

I’ve had the same, 7 units, all had to have own meters back to the roadside - Severn Trent . About 250m run.. but then unities utilities want meters within the properties now, can’t win!

Oh and todays job insisted of a steady day at home, followed by having to get the bolt croppers out on the coffee table in the lounge as 3yr old decided to trap her foot inside of it! (Pic in morning, it’s on scrap pile now 🤦‍♂️)
wife spent 10mins buggering around trying to manipulate it out but was never going out the way it went in!!

Oh and todays job insisted of a steady day at home, followed by having to get the bolt croppers out on the coffee table in the lounge as 3yr old decided to trap her foot inside of it! (Pic in morning, it’s on scrap pile now 🤦‍♂️)
wife spent 10mins buggering around trying to manipulate it out but was never going out the way it went in!!
I would of cut her foot off:oops: then she would always been reminded not to do it again(y) well only once more:ROFLMAO:

My daughter got her head stuck in the banister, had to cut her out. Offered her head up to the gap after and there was no way her head would go in the gap
