So saw my dad today who told me about his exciting day yesterday. Before he was a builder he was a car dealer for 30 odd years and a friend had asked him to sell his merc saloon. Advertised on autotrader at £18k

Some very keen Albanians!!!! Wanted to come see it. Annoying dad had them upto their house/our yard not met them elsewhere.

So 3 adults show up and a kid, they park very strangely on our huge driveway within inches of the merc and nose on to my dads amarok. Enough room to park 6 wagons on it.

Next thing kid wants the loo, dads like toilet in garage but some excuse about needing to go in house so dad escorts kid and 2 of adults into house where mum was watching Wimbledon in kitchen.

Anyway they start big distraction farce about views and how beautiful the house is etc

Matey outside has popped bonnet tipped oil over engine and into radiator cap. And up exhaust, goes for test drive starts smoking and then tries to low ball 6k offer in cash out of a brief case stuffed with cash.

Luckily dads a handy mechanic and savvy enough car dealer to f them off but now cars been sabotaged!!! Googling it shows as known scam.

Plus now they’ve scoped out yard, will try get cctv off them when installers been. They’ve got a good 15 camera system so should show it all.
As you say……it is a common scam

But are'nt we told we need these foreigners skills over here we are all so much better off for it! A couple of years back we stopped 3 eastern europeans from attempting to steal a catalytic converter off a womans Honda we got the reg of their car and it was'nt taxed so also probably not insured and the Police were not really interestead, I put a post up on the neibhourhood website and got slated for saying the people were eastern European so I fired back at them saying I was mearly stating the truth and giving an accurate description of some criminals.

I had 2 in yard this week, when challenged they were looking for a 'skip yard' and they had been given this post code...they didn't even know what this post code was.

Either on the look out for a quick smash and grab or scoping out for future.

I'm relocating soon and it can't come soon enough.

Surely if the bank told you it was a cash payment, it's their problem not yours, you aren't a banking institution, and are not professional financial advisors so you can't be held responsible for the decision made using professional information.

Swines🤬 but I might be sceptical but I'd be doing some serious digging before paying out 8k to someone who has "accidentally" paid it in..🧐
Exactly you’d ring fence into a seperate account and be like we have a 7 day lock on it, speak to us next week or get your bank to speak to our bank

Erm doesn’t the bank have it on cctv? Bank ac holders details etc etc? Not like they shoved 8k into your postbox in the night and requested a refund due to getting the wrong postbox is it?

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
think the main issue here is the fact that the receiving bank declared this as a CASH deposit when it clearly transpired it wasn't ... the whole process would've gone down completely differently then
