It's a 17t Hitachi that I had on hire while mine was having the injector pump sorted the job was a bit big for the case so it was decided to keep it for the rest of the jobwhat machine is that Thomas? doesn't look like your Case

A new toy arrived today from @Laser Levels Online it certainly looks like a quality bit of kit and I really like the auto grade matching having had a play with it last night

Trimmed up to better than 10mm and ready for concrete next week the new laser was brilliant for setting the grades as it all falls to the middle it only takes about 30 secs to set the laser to a gradient by myself no messing about with infared remotes and setting the laser myself
.
And a little job on the way home septic tank was backing up at the farm and a good rodding session last week didn't shift it.
So I dug down on where the outlet to the soakaway is and found it blocked up but also the soakaway was full pretty much to the brim
. This soakaway is about 200t of big rubble that I put in about 10yrs ago but the ground is solid clay so I think it might be time to upgrade to a biodigester with a new outlet to the beck

Thanks mark having had a good play I think I've got the hang of it I do like being able to put the rod clamp on further up the reciver so it starts beeping about 75mm above grade it takes a lot of guesswork out of 'take a bit more out'.
A little set of footings this week dug poured and a good portion of the garden reduced to a more sensible level just a pity it ended up as a bit of a swimming pool

I've had a mecalac 9mwr on demo this week from PV dobsons it's definitely a different machine but incredibly stable and compact with it.
It definitely wins in the compactness compared to the case and a cat 308
And I definitely wouldn't have fitted either of the other machines in here and a 3t is about the biggest you would want to bring to squeeze in
The biggest downside is that it's a bit short on reach its not a fair comparison to the case as it's nearly 4t heavier but it falls a good bit short of the cat too

What kind of money are they now? Last time I asked it was about £100k I think, but I’m sure that was the 11mwr.

The price I was given was for the 11 and it was just over 100k plus buckets and it might've gone up since then
.To be honnest it would be the 11 that I would be looking at the 9 didn't really have the power to push out a load of stone without nibbling a good bit off it first and even then it was short of traction

trouble with the mecs is they run out of dipper travel mighty quick .... hell of a tool though .... had a play with one of them a few years back at one of their days in the Midlands ... very stable little thing

but they do .....superbly made piece of kit and have some amazing tricks up their proverbial sleeves .... multi mode functions and co-ordinated operations of multiple functions ... must take some learning to operate to their optimum performance100k

Yes it's a bit like any duck it'll bite your head off if your not paying attention though it is a lot easier to drive than the case. The automatic tab boom is weird it definitely helps with the sort travel of the dipper but it makes the machine quite slow. It would be a absolutely brilliant tool carrier but as a excavator it's just a bit to slow it makes up for it a bit with the skid bucket you can soon shove a pile out the way with it but taking a pile and throwing it behind you to move it is painful.

New machines always sound a lot of money, but how would that compare to a full spec Hydradig which I guess are similar size, but nothing like as flexible?

Probably similar in price but where you say not as flexible hydradig would have far more reach so be far more useful in other ways. I think the mecs are a brilliant machine and probably out on their own as a tool carrier but in reality the work and financial return to really suit one doesn't really exist in the uk. You'll know with ur menzi how there's a limited amount of dedicated work for them which pays enough to justify one but that's fine as they aren't that many walkers in the uk so there's enough work to go round and its work only suited to walkers. Trouble for the mecs is a lot of the work you'd use one for could be done with a conventional 360 for half the outlay.
