So, small tracked dumpers, tracked barrows etc. Is a high tip and necessity?

I wouldn’t consider one without a hi-tip, use it a lot for tipping into the Ifor tipper and skips.

Tipping height is so low on non high tip models you can't make much of a pile very easily. They come into their own in tight spots where you don't have much space, no good if you can't heap stuff up. As said ideal for loading skips etc.

Hi tip is a must on them really for the kind of work they tend to do. My opinion having owned one and used a few in anger.
Firstly, unless you have a cheap source of petrol, get a diesel one. Yes they are noisy but the saving in fuel used will soon make you put up with it.
Slanetrack and Cormidi are up there at the top for me. No high frame that stops you putting one in the back of a van.
Hinowa's used to be the ones but their latest models Ive seen all have the stupid tall frame to achieve high tip. Same with the Kubota ones.
JCB are cheap, nice compact unit thats nice to use until you try to turn - lacks tracking power. But they are cheap...
I would have to take a look at the Kato ones now on the market, they look pretty tasty, think one even has expanding tracks! But I've not used one.

Having used a wheelbarrow a lot lately I think one of these may be handy! That said my belle wheelbarrow is mega, plus only needs a chocolate bar to run for prolonged periods of time

Not convinced on the merits off wheel barrows myself. As said I think the high tip would be a must for tipping in to the trailer,skip or just making it easier to make a heap/ see where your tipping. The things I don't like about my one is noise and vibration. I have used the hinowa and the lifting frame is annoying for loading it with digger.

You can shift some sh*t with cople of lads and barrows. The ammount of work a barrow does for the 40/50 quid they cost is immense.

On the right job, 100%. If I had a job come up where barrow was the only option I'd treat myself to an electric assist one. All the benefits of a barrow with less than half the fatigue. Win win, especially running up ramps etc.
That's the difference between folks like us and your average builder. They only see the cost of the electric barrow- I see the fact that it turns a bloke into a bloke and a half, maybe even two over the course of a day.
Dumpers are like diggers- one will never fit all unfortunately. I like my little high tip Lumag for the money it cost, but if I don't need to high tip but have to load with the micro then the muck truck is often a faster option (faster to load and a quicker turnaround) Plus with turf tyres on garden jobs are quicker without messing around with boards. Muddy extension dig, piling up on the road for the grab- no contest, tracked high tip all the way.

I can see a light weight wheeled dumper being a lot of use especially like you say with turf tyres to save the grass.

Hi, I’ve got a high tip 1/2 ton machine , the winget 500, great reliable machine ,makes barrowing so easy , but ...... I hate using it ! They are so narrow and therefore unstable on anything other than flat ground ! I’ve tipped it over twice myself ! So hate letting customers use it

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
hate to think of the tonnage I've shifted in a barrow in my lifetime
... and still in regular use every week

To be fair my htd5 in the 3 years I've owned it has got to have shifted 3000+ ton of material. That's alot of back breaking work saved.
The cormidi I probably won't have for long as debating going for either slanetrac or a high tip with self loader as could see being able to load its self a big help at times, rather than tracking between loading and spreading

Ive got a great little tracked dumper but its not hi tip - high tip will no doubt have advantages but if I want to load into trailer I go up ramps onto it and can get it plenty full - same with 7.5t wagon just put skip on floor and track in.
Wouldnt want to be without a small tracked dumper of one sort or another.
