:unsure:ok bear with me I would use the right hand lever bucket open/close because you won’t ever need to steer while curling the bucket
So put a 3 way electric valve in each bucket ram pipes then run the pipes to the steering ram (can make the connection on the slew turret) where there is another pair of 3 way solenoid valves, then you will also need one solenoid that will pick up the feed to the obitrol and divert to waste, have all the solenoids connected by relays so they can’t back feed each other, then with a button on the right lever pressed it energies all the solenoids therefore sending the bucket ram oil to the steering ram and letting the obitrol oil to just flow around the system(y)
Anyway that’s how I would do it simple and cheap and easy to control (that’s how Grahams walker steers)
Interesting to here alk this....but what is the icon for something flying over your head!!

I like the basic idea Mog ... .. but'd disagree that you'd never need to use the crowd on the move ... with forks on, I'd really need it, if juggling stuff about ... which is what i use her for a lot ;)
However ..... as said a 3 way to dump the orbital feed to tank, (y) plus two 6 x 2 diverters (instead of 4 separate 3 ways) under the cab floor, to deal with all the hose swaps from the orbital and alternate feed to the steering rams ;) ----- assuming the 6 x 2s will work in reverse, using the P and T to feed the rams, I could either use the two way pedal to supply the alternate feed, but compromise my VA-r usage (perhaps ... but maybe not - needs some more thought) or I bang a two way cetop under there as well, instead of one of the 6 x 2s, to provide the alternate two way feed and control that with me buttons for left / right, with the pedal in its usual one way function, controlling flow to the cetop under the cab and still be able to use the VA-r in exactly the same way as i do currently ;) and steer simultaneously (y):giggle:

the big question is .... would the 3 ways or 6 x 2s work in reverse ?? ..... a manual 3 way would for sure ... two alternate feeds in, one out, instead of the one in, two alternates out  ????
have you ever tried it?

as for the leccy side of it .... me directional buttons could still fire; the cetop's solenoids, 6 x2s and the orbital's 3 way dump ..... just need to double up on the relays to maintain isolation and to fire the cetop by relay too .
the two extra buttons I'd use, have their own entirely separate circuit laid in already, so no cross talk from the VA-r's controls would occur ;)

Lot to ponder there, for sure ;)(y)

Well think about it:unsure:, it will be on a momentary button so will only be pressed when turning which you don’t steer very often (well I don’t) which you manage to do now as you can’t steer and crowd at the moment:confused:
What we need is Rob, Ollie,Daz or anybody else who has joy stick steering to see if they actually steer while crowding:unsure:

On the liebherr Paul you have a switch to press that makes the function of joystick steering live, you still have all other services available including crowd the only thing it does is limit top speed, it will go into top gear but will only give you perhaps a third of the speed as a safety thing. Moving around at Grahams place would you need to steer at the same time and crowd perhaps perhaps not, I move around a lot at the job I'm on and I could do it without crowding you move around so slow if I had to id just stop and crowd

Hi Graham. Just a thought. Would you need to dump the orbital to tank? It should just carry on dumping to tank with no steering input. And if you did move the steering would it not be the same as the ram end of travel and a relief valve take care of it. Hope that makes sense!
Plant talk forum seams to be going great.

Don't complain - suggest what's better
I also have a rocker switch on the dash to permanently switch to steering if going any distance. Works for me

I crowd while steering🙈, but don’t need to start pressing buttons or anything, it’s just on a roller underneath left hand joystick, am able to use an number of functions without any issue or having to stop using one function so I can use another one, i.e picking cones up, could be traveling forward, steering, arm up and down gripper open/closing and rotating as well as crowding and opening, sounds like a lot when it’s written down😬, but it’s not in realality, and is as smooth as anything.

Yes properly right, plus when you drive it your hands will be on the sticks so no where near the steering wheel

That's a fair point Griff .... it's always dumping to tank unless a steering demand is made on the valve :)(y) ..... removing the outlet pipes by closing them off with a 6 x 2 diverter'd be the same as dead ending the cylinders IF you tried to steer with the wheel whilst the 6 x 2 was engaged ;) .... always assuming the architecture of the 6 x 2s will allow them to work backwards ?

Aye..... but you got an all singing, dancing, all the bells and whistles set up Ollie :):sneaky:... and be interesting to know if your orbital is fed by a separate pump circuit or the main?
anything's possible if one chucks enough dosh at it, it's a bespoke build .. and it earns ;) ... the Druid budget is a bit smaller  .. but'd still love to be able to make it work ;) be soooooooo handy (y)

sorry Mog:rolleyes: .... didn't see your reply ... and yeh, with yer mitts welded to the sticks, you'm highly unlikely to make any accidental inputs to the steering wheel

Couldn’t tell you about the orbital or anything, that’s getting a bit to technical for me🙄, as for a bespoke build, there’s nothing special about this, it’s is just an off the shelf unit from engcon that’s all

I should have said installation Ollie ..... IIRC you got an anniversary jobbie haven't you ... silver one ;) ... I realise that every install is bespoke...before anyone tells me .. but there's a standardish fit .... then there's all the bells, etc.

There’s nothing different with it been a silver one Gra, it’s only a colour...doesn’t change the driver!! Lol, ....it’s a standard fit, just has a control system which lets me chose which rollers/buttons do what and at what speed, saying that, it has never had to have to be re-calibrated or anything, I just let John set it up and that’s it, never had to be tweaked or anything, and that’s been on both units, over about 5/6 years? Not into all this messing with the settings on them, if it’s installed right, you shouldn’t have start playing around it, we don’t start messing around with the settings on the engine of the machine so why the tilty?

yeh I realise it's just a different colour coat of shiny sh1t on 'em Ol :) .... to get stick steer and all the niceties requires a LOT more plumbing to be added though ;) .... not what you'd call a 'Bobby basic' install
