was a guy a while later in the brummy area, with a similar set up, lifting bikes ..... rock up looking all 'official' pick up a nice shiny new bike, as if it'd broken down and gone ..... had several dozen and never caught .. all top-line bikes

Something similar a number of years ago with bikes not to far from here, but they actual had planted a mole in the shop!!....top-line bikes, but obviously got to find out addresses, security features, where it was kept, when they went to work etc etc.

yep ... my scrappy's a nice guy ... we were never far out on our respective notional values ... these days he calls by for a cuppa and gets given what little i produce ... glad to be rid usually

We have our own Del garcon's down here - they recently called round the yard to take a nice little heap of old cast radiators and such that I had .................they are especially considerate ours,they came at night and loaded themselves by hand so as not to bother me im sure they will call in to pay next time they are in the area

anything after IIRC '91 (J reg) has to have a cat. in place as it was factory fit from that date on ... the old trick was to 'gut' them

If it’s still passing the emissions test then as far as I know they cannot fail it for having no cat in place. Obviously if it fails emissions test and the removal of the cat is the cause, then it may need one fitted to pass, but technically doesn’t need one to pass the test.
I’ve deleted many over the years, on various vehicles. It’s usually no trouble if the Lambda sensor is before the cat, but I’ve seen lots of them with a sensor before and after, so it’s not so easy. It would need mapping out of the ecu if that were the case. Anyway, I digress.....

To be fair the emissions are not hard to fail on. We had a 2006 1.9 zafira the pre-cat was gutted and the dpf cut open and also gutted yet at its not was always one of the lowest vehicles tested for the day on emissions

I think what you do is offer assistance with the mot tester and when they connect up the emissions tester clip it on to the exhaust of another car

Don't think mine has an ecu. When I got it cut off the geezer said it's ok it's only a smog test not emissions test. I dunno what that means was just glad to be rid

Diesels are a smoke test rather than actual emissions.
Majority would fail a proper emissions test for nox or co. Blanking egr on a diesel raises nox levels, ironically even though motorbikes are seen as a more eco friendly alternative to a car they can pump out higher levels of nox and hydrocarbons than a car

But ...... it's a required fitment post J plate ... it must have a cat (on petrol anyway - dunno the cut off for diesels)?

Required at manufacturing yes, but from what I’ve been told by my mot guy, it’s can’t be an mot for not having one.

It’s just what I’ve been told, I’m no expert, but do try and remember what my mot man tells me

From the MOT test manual,

8.2.2.1. Exhaust emission control equipment
You only need to check components that are visible and identifiable, such as diesel oxidation catalysts, diesel particulate filters, exhaust gas recirculation valves and selective catalytic reduction valves.

If a diesel particulate filter has clearly been cut open and rewelded, you should reject it unless the vehicle presenter can show evidence that there was a valid reason to cut it open, such as for filter cleaning.

well that's pretty definitive and's basically what me mate said ... gotta be there if fitted from new, post 92
