Not saying that I agree or disagree with the rules but I know that I had a hired in machine and the police said that the bald tyre wasn't prosicuatable...only that if there was severe or obvious damage it'd become an offence.

Site down the road from me for six new houses has just opened up and as I went past yesterday saw them using what looked like a brand new fast track and tipper trailer for the muck away. How can this possibly be cost effective compared to tippers? Unless the farmer is losing all the spoil on his land at no cost to him I guess.

The E.A have been told enough times by enough people to wait in certain laybys for Tractors, Transits and Trailers....... They are useless and concerned only with chasing organisations with paperwork they can threaten on technicalities to line there nests.

DVSA are much the same..... A few "agricultural inspectors" launched into the countryside which actually know there s**t could work wonders.....

The issue with all of it is 1950's laws for a 2050 society.....

I saw that elsewhere - horrible for all involved. Seems a very harsh sentence for essentially having no flashing beacon though. I’m not sure if that would have made much difference to the outcome.

And all for a Beacon....

Personally though I've mixed views. I do a lot of miles along the A38 which is practically a motorway (it does not really have unregulated entrances onto the highway from fields and such like as it was always intended to become part of the M5) including with the wheeldigger.

The amount of spazwombles who cannot notice a 10t digger yomping along lit up like it's Christmas is incredible.

And that's on a road that your not having to pull out on.

Needs to be more accountability in the UK. Likewise the amber beacon thing is badly publicised and enforced. I'm sure the biker was totally only doing 70......

A quick read of newspaper articles seems to suggest that he didn't stop after the impact and tried to hide his tractor and trailer at another farm

Yes it was obviously a farm spec setup but struggling to see how that actually caused the accident apart from the amber beacon?

Obviously there was events afterwards which must have contributed to his sentence. Interesting one

aside from the beacon issue, he was probably crawling along, there are several turns onto the A40 (a DC) from side roads in that area with virtually zero slip ons, just a junction - I know it well -
the fact that the traccy /trailer combo should not have been on the road / was unfit to be there, is an almost certain contributory factor to the sentence's severity.
Plus, as Rory says the additional circumstances.
let's be fair, it is high time that ag. vehicles were subject to far harsher scrutiny, regular inspection and requirements to comply with a level of safety that all other motorised road users have to adhere to
and then start on the bloody cyclists, who for the most part are bloody clueless

round here most farmers lights/brakes/beacons dont work, its very sad for everyone involved obviously, but im not sure the beacon is the reason ...unless it was dark ? half the time if they are actually working you cant see them in bright daylight.

I entered a small roundabout the other day a golf in front of me. We pulled out he came to a stop on the roundabout looked left and turned up the oncoming lane on the left. If anyone came around the corner it would have been carnage.

Living where we do I have a healthy respect for bikers ...not into them myself but I have seen plenty of disasters barbed wire vs dismounted biker doesn't look nice...
More twats on 4 wheels imo...but honestly the devils bridge road I did used to wonder if some bikers had lost the will to reach the end of the day . Lunatics think the new breed of electric riding drug dealer kids doesn't do bikers any good image wise

I’m still blown away by how nice it was in Belgium and how well cyclists and motorists got on. I also saw police giving some cyclists absolute s**t for bad riding .. which was healthy to see
We have a lot to learn from some of our European brethren .

Had motorbikes under front bucket (how they weren’t mince I don’t know!) wagons overtaking me only to pull back in halfway along side me, over taking around roundabouts and then pulling across infront to get where they wanted to, cyclists holding onto back bucket for a sneaky pull.. probably should of had a dashcam

3CX ...oldish one pulled out in front of this week heading up to blubber houses which is a helluva climb from Bolton abbey ...frig did it slow down! 12 mph for a bit. Ruddy glad when he pulled off! Thought it was one of the back hoe boys taking great delight
