Tidy work, Dave. I like a bit of ditch cleaning myself, but the K008 can only reach just over 5’ straight down so not the best weapon for the job. Did you manage not to splash Ryan?

Thanks Brian 👍🏻 Yes my little old 1503 has got a hell of a reach 😎
Dunno why I was so careful with the stinky black stuff, it would have added to Ryan’s experience to have a face full:ROFLMAO:

I'd not bother with a deep dig bucket just a normal 9" for a water pipe.
Did Ryan learn to travel backwards while carrying something stinky in a dumper? 😉

Just because they call them a cable bucket doesn't mean its the only bucket you can dig a cable trench with. Builder local to me has a 6 inch bucket for his micro which is great you dig very little out and so have very little to tidy up. But you end up with a pi**y little trench you can't see in while you're digging and if you have to get in with spade to dig under a pipe etc you're feet don't even fit in. 12 inch bucket minimum for me you can get in trench if you need to and is actually wide enough to track back in or get trench rammer in.

More to the point as they are so narrow you have zero chance against underground utilities
You can't see what's a root and what's a cable
And ass they are so narrow will destroy things with ease where as a wider bracket with bigger surface area will usually glide over ducts and the like

Bought a 6inch for mine, used it once. Don’t really like it but that’s probably more down to manufacturers design.

Was chatting to my mate John on the phone last night. He's the one who has moved out to Alcalali, Alicante into his new villa last year
Some of you may recall that he got stuck here over the Xmas/Winter period when visiting family.
He finally went back on 7th March 2021.....
......since then he has been dealing with the new Villa snagging list - there's loads to do
AND helping Scott his brother-in-law at his new property just up the road.
Scott and his wife have bought a small villa on a 4.5 acre plot just out of town.
The idea is to set up a new camp site for caravans and campers etc ;)
d5bb840d-dfa1-4bf2-963b-c09767593612.jpg

The thing is that it's on the side of a small mountain and the ground is very rocky.
Bedrock is only about 18" below soil.
They have been unable to locate somewhere to hire in a mini digger
416d0e7b-90e3-4b1d-b93f-bcf8f7325d5f.jpg

So much of the site clearance has been done by hand and forming rough 'dry stone walls'
Hard work in all that lovely sunshine.

So I said that once restrictions ease, I'll come out and operate a digger on site in exchange for a free holiday
BUT they will have to hire one in

So, guys do you know where we can hire a digger at or near Alcalali, Alicante, Spain?
Perhaps you have an ex-pat contact out there;)

Amongst the gifts from Laura I was given a CAT plant set - will feature these in projects for you to spot later in the year :ROFLMAO:

Got roped in to helping out at the Harwich Masonic Centre where a full refurbishment is taking place ready for reopening ;)
IMG_4791.jpeg

Cleared and sprayed off all the weeds....

IMG_4856.jpeg

Carted away an old cupboard which was full of woodworm

IMG_4854.jpeg

"Dave, we cant get the urinals to flush! Can you just have a quick look at the please?"
The check/dribble valve had been closed off - job jobbed 😇

The cupboard was dealt with in the time honoured fashion 🤪

Received a phone call out of the blue last week from a local Tree Surgeons and Landscaper business.
Big outfit with a young dynamic MD. I don't advertise so what's not to like.
"Dave. I was given your number by Todd. Can you just sort out a ditch for us on he Ramsey Playing Field?"
R - "Yes of course, I'm on my way back from Colchester and can meet you on site in 10 minutes"
IMG_4861.jpeg

The field is subject to regular flooding and they they have previous dug a 'drainage trench' along the back where it runs off the hill and road.
Then the overgrown bushes and scrub has been cleared ready for action.
Trench is about 18" - 2' deep - "It needs to be made safe like a ditch so no one falls in and hurts themselves"

IMG_4859.jpeg

So as usual got loaded up ready to leave first thing in the morning.
Our young cat "Bramble" always does this - she knows that I'm off out and tries to stow away

IMG_4860.jpeg

The Ramsey Playing Field is a superb local community resource. There's football field, adventure play gear including zip wire. A closed in children's play area. The whole field gently slopes towards a small stream.

IMG_4865.jpeg

Ditch is about 120m long - my old Neuson nailed it with it longer reach, stuffing the rubbish out of the way at the back.

IMG_4867.jpeg

Being a kind person, I had to pause a few times to re-home these little critters 😇

IMG_4868.jpeg

Now coming to the end of a longish day listening in on the new Bose 700 noise cancelling headphones.
Varied between Radio 2 on the Sounds App or Pink Floyd
IMG_4871.jpeg

This is the view from where I finished gently sloping towards the stream.......

IMG_4872.jpeg

......and here's the stream which was cleared out earlier this year.

Now, I have recommended that we link the drainage ditch to the stream. They don't want anything done until after the football season

It's about 90m between the ditch and stream.
What do you experts recommend for the link up?🤪

And finally, who will be watching the England v Germany match on Tuesday :ROFLMAO:

great job as usual Dave ...... cheapest link'd be a continuation of the open ditch, if it's feasible and tucked out the way .. piping it is gonna cost - and block

Don't complain - suggest what's better
You can't beat Bose for noise cancelling. I prefer the in ear and have the QC20. Wired, but much better than the wireless version as it didn't have a noise cancelling mike so you couldn't make phone calls. If you register with your library on line you can get free audio books which are great.

Like yer thinking on this Gra (y)
Biggest snags are 90 deg turn, snaking around tree roots, and tucking on the far boundary.
BUT, at least I’ll get called back regularly to clean it out ;)

Yep - on 10 the digger engine goes very quiet. And I love being able to receive phone calls
Thanks for the tip about audio books - I’ll give it a try when I’m on boring jobs :p

Busy most of this week......

"Dave can you just sort out our yard up by the stables"
May mate Les (from the Lodge) and his wife keep horses on some land with a barn near here
Under those stingers behind the car is a hump of rubbish and bonfire ash - about 20 tons of it!!

IMG_4909.jpeg

So got out the landscape rake for the brambles and s**t :poop:

IMG_4910.jpeg

It ain't me eating bacon butties :ROFLMAO:

IMG_4792.jpeg

Our Nicola popped down to see the horses. She'll be down at the weekend with her girls to ride them.
WhatsApp Image 2021-06-28 at 11.56.57 (1).jpeg

One is a bloody race horse - what can possibly go wrong

IMG_4913.jpeg

Raked, graded and banked up. There's hardcore/crushed under that lot of 'made up ground'. Job jobbed
"Les you just need some road planning to sort that lot out. And don't forget to spray the weeds off regularly"
Then there was the 20 or so tree stumps out the back for a "Can you just...." before I finished another long day 🤪
That evening got a text "Hi mate. Huge thanks for all your hard work today. The place looks pucker."
Great to be appreciated 😇
