I wa starting to worry as well. You get some interesting little jobs, and tidy work. How come you were on a hire machine rather than the helicopter?
Thanks Brian - someone else that care about me 😍
Even that hire machine struggled for reach. My BIL said he was gonna hire a 5 tonner but the muppet got one not much bigger than mine
Love my helicopter - it gets place where others fear to tread :ROFLMAO:

Nah been soooooo busy with work life balance - holidays, family and still going out to play a few days a week
Perhaps I'll try and find more time to post more stuff on the old blog 🤓
must confess, I too was beginning to wonder if all was OK at your end of the world :rolleyes:

I know exactly where that is, Dave. If I’d known you were up I’d have called round with the beer. Did you go into the cathedral?

Thought you’d know Brian 😊
No we didn’t go inside. But it was a nice walk from Ferry Meadows
We had a pint on the square doing a spot of people watching 🤪

This fella was absolutely smashed and listening to a loud radio. Obviously a normal local 😅
Perhaps I’ll look you up for a beer 🍻 next time 😊

If you want noise, walk through the town centre on a Saturday between shops closing and all the nightlife kicking off. Did you do the walk beside the Nene Valley railway? Sometimes you get a surprise and a steamer will come through outside of normal running hours.

Busy day in the freezing weird today.
Dig out and crushed on for a barn project ready for the main build
My mate on the dumper likes taking nice photos.
While I wrestled with 80T of crushed demolition blend crap :ROFLMAO:

A few weeks ago I was working in the village of Dedham.
This a north Essex village made famous by the artist John Constable :)

IMG_6235.jpeg

Simple little can you just dig a trench for my SWA cables?
Dave, who is an Electrician that used to be married to my sister.
He is a great business partner and uses me for all the dirt stuff
This particular job was for a Farm Charity that gives Therapy to any person with disabilities etc
Lovely people to work with and for and kept me supplied with tea 😇

IMG_6240.jpeg

So, while I was there, I popped into the local Pharmacy for me Covid Booster jab.
Lovely sunny day and such nice people and village.
Didn't hurt 'cos I'm well 'ard 💪

IMG_6238.jpeg

So Dave had pissed off leaving me to it.
He knows that I dig to required depth, install the cables in soft sand, lay out warning tape and back fill nicely :p

IMG_6243.jpeg

All nicely back filled and covered back over with the road planings at the entrance.
Job jobbed, nothing to see move on please ;)

IMG_6231.jpeg

BUT while I am there I park the Navara on the slope with the Ifor on the wanky old bridge.
I have never advertised and often get accused of talking to anyone.
This lead to more leads and business

So the staff at the Therapy Farm were compiling that the Bridge woodwork is all going rotten
Indeed it is old railway sleepers on steel RSJs with holes in it.
I was careful to track the 1503 and park the unloaded trailer over the steels

So I said I'd have a word about getting it repaired. Hold that thought.......

.........remember that Bridge. Turns out that the parish Council are now keen to get it sorted.
AND they want little old me to 'quote' for the job

IMG_6322.jpeg

4 x RSJ Steels between brick piers which seem sound enough
12 foot long reclaimed sleepers - 18 of the big 12" ones

IMG_6324.jpeg

Sleeper ends all going rotten. Covered with plywood!

IMG_6326.jpeg

The plywood covering is now going rotten. Revealing the completely rotted out sleepers below.
You can see the water flowing below this one

IMG_6330.jpeg

Have written to the Parish Council with estimates (don't do quotes) and various options.
My favoured option is to replace all the 12 foot sleepers with 'new' grade A reclaimed ones
And IF I get involved, will be using a business partner with experience of civil and stuff like this ;)
At the moment struggling to find a supplier for these...

So there you have it guys - suggestions on a postcard please :ROFLMAO:

Good luck finding good old sleepers they seem to be very thin on the ground these days. Plywood covering will have sped up the sleepers rotting. Leave a gap between them (10/15mm) so the air can circulate round them and they'll last years, if you can find some that is.

well he's doing a decent job of it
Thanks Gra (y)
He took a better one on the same day - frosty morning early start with the sun rising in the East

So this has gotta be my favourite.
Now if I could be bothered to advertise on social media or web site this would get a posting

Yes with you on that one - the plywood would appear to be cheap shuttering ply and a complete bodge 🙁

how about using concrete pre stressed beams (block and beam) butted together and concreted.

We use them for garage floors so can easily take the weight and nothing to rot.
