Been another busy few weeks - do you know that I could goes out with my machines every day if I wanted to
Rod, my SIL grab lorry driver, tells me that every site he goes on are saying there is a shortage of mini diggers, both operated and for hire.
So that good news for us boys - loads of work out there

You will remember that on 26 March 2021 I wrote up about the fun and games looking for the old drainage system on an old WW2 American Airbase.
AND that after recommending CCTV inspection etc I though I would be back......
.........the CCTV guys didn't find out much at all 'cos it was all silted up
So rocked up on one of the old runways, "Can you just pull a trench along the edge of the field, there's drain running across there. I've seen the crop marks, but lost the photo".
A 20m trench was required but after 10m at 4ft deep.....
.....so after 10m of trench I found this hoofing great 2 ft diameter pipe.
"I think that's the old pipe laid beside the old road long before the Yanks arrived. It's shown on the old maps that I showed you"
But WTF do I know about such things
So I start digging for the pipe beside the old runway......
......where I find that the Yanks have laid their 'French Drain' right through the middle of the the old 2 ft pipe

before it disappears under the runway toward the yard outside an old hangar (now a grain store).
So I open up access and there's only about 2-3 inches of nice slippery silt in the bottom. And Mr Sonde is then deployed.
Fantastic bit of kit with strong signals popping up from about 4'6" of soil and concrete
Bugger I get only about 16m up the pipe and hit something solid......
So then I get out the big guns and let Mr Arrowhead do some work

In the meantime we find that we can shout to each other down the pipes between the field and the hangar.
This is a technical method of comms
Fast running out of time on a a Friday afternoon, Simon says, "Can you just check the invert levels for me"
"Yep it's as I said running towards the trees across the yard from the field about 270mm difference"
So I have given him a range of options some of which are outside my skill set, but I know that "I'll be back"

IMHO that big 2ft pipe is part of the old drainage from the 1900s and apart from some damage appears largely clear.
I suspect that the outfall is where we saw it back in March about 1/2 mile away across another field.
Any advice on where we go from here would be great.
All I will do is dig holes and have a look
