a little more encouragement :giggle::giggle:
That is awesome but don't think that I can go the full fat Merlin experience;)
Don't need encouragement - will probably end with another V8 SD1 soon but don't tell SWMBO :ROFLMAO:
IMG_4307.jpeg

I treated her to a new haircut this week and an MG TF so I'm in with a chance 😇
BUT at the moment I'm using spare workshop time to do some fettling on the MG TF.
@V8Druid Wanna see some stuff :p

Yep I too had loads of spares stored over here. I even had a spare engine and gearbox in the old pigsties 🤠
Was chatting to my brother and his mate (retired body shop owner) yesterday and we all agree that 'modern classics' are set to increase in value :giggle:

Some plant stuff before we talk cars.......
......the dumper got a slight mod yesterday on the tow bar front
IMG_4311.jpeg

Stuck a nice ex Range Rover height adjustable tow hitch on it
It's now ready to move trailers and caravans around my yard/land easily and was immediately pressed into service moving John's big fcuk off caravan
IMG_4317.jpeg

John has finally gone to his new villa in Spain.. We are due to take the van down here for a free holiday when it's safe to do so :giggle:

some of me motor collection  had loads of mechanicals, g/boxes, axles, trim and electricals .... IIRC I binned summat like 20 odd starters and at least that of AC23 alternators too, in me clear out . Rarely bought much other than fuel and brake pads (occasionally) .... plus any 'donors' that cropped up in the area. Must've scrapped 40-50 in me time .. lost count, but got a hell of a pile of V5s  ....
I do know for one very tidy V8S, which a very good friend had for decades - one of the first 'S',s ... been garaged all its life and now belongs to his son, who inherited his garage biz .... if he'd sell it to anyone, it'd be me, as Herby and I were both big fans of the SDs (if he still has it - might find out?)

Wow you was totally in love with the old SD1s 🥰
If the V8s is available and Pam won’t let you have it then please let me have second refusal but don’t tell Sharon 🤣

haven't seen Herby's son Martin in a while ..... mostly due to all the sh1t going on this last year+ and TBH the sentimental attachment may be too strong anyway, but as said if he were to sell it I'm pretty sure that my and his dad's close friendship'd be major influence .......

as for 'the boss', she knows i love 'em too ....... my last Vitesse was the transport for the evening, on our first (blind) date 22 years ago  .....
thinking about it IIRC Herby's 'S' was on a V plate ('79/'80) so should also be an historic now too :giggle::cool: ........

hell all this talk of SD,s is making me miss 'em more than ever ...
and yes I did love 'em Dave ....
they were a fair chariot, that few people really appreciated and most couldn't keep up with :giggle::giggle: ...... and even fewer could cope with their thirst (which wasn't bad considering) ..... I ran at least one for for years and loved driving 'em

Been another busy few weeks - do you know that I could goes out with my machines every day if I wanted to :ROFLMAO:
Rod, my SIL grab lorry driver, tells me that every site he goes on are saying there is a shortage of mini diggers, both operated and for hire.
So that good news for us boys - loads of work out there 🤠
You will remember that on 26 March 2021 I wrote up about the fun and games looking for the old drainage system on an old WW2 American Airbase.
AND that after recommending CCTV inspection etc I though I would be back......
.........the CCTV guys didn't find out much at all 'cos it was all silted up
IMG_4389.jpeg

So rocked up on one of the old runways, "Can you just pull a trench along the edge of the field, there's drain running across there. I've seen the crop marks, but lost the photo".
IMG_4393.jpeg

A 20m trench was required but after 10m at 4ft deep.....
IMG_4396.jpeg

.....so after 10m of trench I found this hoofing great 2 ft diameter pipe.
"I think that's the old pipe laid beside the old road long before the Yanks arrived. It's shown on the old maps that I showed you"
But WTF do I know about such things

IMG_4398.jpeg

So I start digging for the pipe beside the old runway......
IMG_4400.jpeg

......where I find that the Yanks have laid their 'French Drain' right through the middle of the the old 2 ft pipe  before it disappears under the runway toward the yard outside an old hangar (now a grain store).
IMG_4410.jpeg

So I open up access and there's only about 2-3 inches of nice slippery silt in the bottom. And Mr Sonde is then deployed.
Fantastic bit of kit with strong signals popping up from about 4'6" of soil and concrete
IMG_4411.jpeg

Bugger I get only about 16m up the pipe and hit something solid......
IMG_4414.jpeg

So then I get out the big guns and let Mr Arrowhead do some work :p
In the meantime we find that we can shout to each other down the pipes between the field and the hangar.
This is a technical method of comms 😂
IMG_4416.jpeg

Fast running out of time on a a Friday afternoon, Simon says, "Can you just check the invert levels for me"
"Yep it's as I said running towards the trees across the yard from the field about 270mm difference"
So I have given him a range of options some of which are outside my skill set, but I know that "I'll be back" 🤠
IMHO that big 2ft pipe is part of the old drainage from the 1900s and apart from some damage appears largely clear.
I suspect that the outfall is where we saw it back in March about 1/2 mile away across another field.
Any advice on where we go from here would be great.
All I will do is dig holes and have a look :ROFLMAO:

Be very aware of anything you dig up that looks dodgy. Old airfields are notorious for having live munitions buried on them. You may be lucky though, when the Yanks pulled out after the war they buried lots of gear they didn't want to take home such as jeeps, motorbikes, etc.
Thanks for the great advice (y)
The thought did cross my mind when I was going for it in the trench

I'll let you know if I find buried treasure on my next visit :ROFLMAO:

Must be an amazing place to own somewhere like that. But that sinking feeling if you’re digging and hear metal on metal 😬

Did a couple of 'local' jobs today for neighbours at 'Mates Rates' ;)
Terry opposite said, "When you get a moment can you just pop over and level up where my old poly tunnel was?"
IMG_4447.jpeg

Twas a hell of a mess with usual rubbish from the sh!t that he'd been storing in there before the winter gales blew away the UV compromised cover :poop:
Last week got rid of the frame on FB Market Place for the old boy and he got in a local rubbish tipper guy🤠
IMG_4449.jpeg

Got down amongst the dirt and combed the rubbish into the lower level. The sand is from an old above grown pool that used to be in there a few years ago 🥴
IMG_4450.jpeg

The old buggers then watched me while I graded it off ready for grass seed 😅
Then another neighbour let me have a go in his 'new excavator'........
IMG_4451.jpeg

Are they any good boys? Certainly smooth on the sticks 😚

On the way home 50 yards up the road, Sue had her 6 yarder delivered......
IMG_4453.jpeg

Sue said the other day, "Can you load a skip for me when you are about?"
Then she said, "How long do you think it will take"
R - "Should be done just before tea break" 🤣
Most enjoyable day, with some great neighbours 🥰
