I'm hoping 5g is rolled out near me by end of 12 month contract of my mobile Wi-Fi. Then I can choose between that and fixed line.
We used 4g for a while but found it had issues with something’s like banking. Also has satellite broadband for a while but that was painful with anything that needed a secure connection.

Did you know that the tilt will jack these beasts up on blocks so you can spin yer wheel(s) to test and take wheels off etc :geek:

A lad who worked with me put a pallet onto a kerbed pad at the side of the yard, then came in to say he’d lost drive and couldn’t reverse. He’d done the same, tilted forwards and jacked his wheels up with the base of the mast.

So got the boys from 2R Installations Ltd to get the job finished........
IMG_3046.jpeg

Think Richard is saying that he wants ONE sugar in his tea:ROFLMAO:
IMG_3049.jpeg

Then the buggers only wanted loads more blocks from my stock
IMG_3053.jpeg

And my entire stock of brushing sand:oops:
Love the Wacker/Neuson compactor plate - same make as my digger

IMG_3054.jpeg

First thing they said - "Well that manhole needs to come up 60mm"
That alone convinced me to use these guys.
Richard is my brother-in-law and he runs a 2 man band doing stuff like this.
Tony is the fish pond expert. They were both 'bouncers' in Colchester back in the day - well 'ard 😜

So this week I've been with my old mate, Richard who runs a one man band groundworks business.
He is typical 'old school' and really takes the piss out of "Can you just....." :ROFLMAO:
IMG_3123.jpeg

Pulled back this band to reveal the crappy concrete that will be replaced with block paving. We have done phase one and this will be phase 2.
"How deep we going Rich?" R - "About 300mm" 😜

IMG_3128.jpeg

So much crap :poop: under the old concrete. Foundations, blocks, bricks, old drains and even a complete manhole:rolleyes:
This is the place where I previous dug up the gas mani - so I know where that runs 🤫

IMG_3129.jpeg

"Can you just move the crushed down ready for grading off"
About 20T moved about 80m down the old drive......
IMG_3133.jpeg

Here Richard looking for more snags adding to the delays 😜

IMG_3135.jpeg

So bu 'close of play' today had pulled out more than 2 lorry loads of mixed for the Grab lorry.
Good old Rod, my son-in-law, turned up bang on time
Note the superb block paving on Phase 1 :D
He'll be back tomorrow for another load.....
IMG_3141.jpeg

Richard 'in the zone' with a nice Amman diesel Wacker after I'd graded the crushed to with 10mm
Just the other side of that bank is a drainage ditch which takes all the main road water away.
That's going to be gadded off and held back with concrete gravel boards.
IMG_3121.jpeg

Back at home SWMBO is getting in the Christmas Spirit.
This area is our (now reductant) Tier 2 outside meeting place.
Sharon is really low and is embracing positivity to get her through these challenging times 🥰

That looks more mud than crush. I can't stand it, for the extra few quid a ton price of type 1 I use virgin stone on every job. So much quicker to set to levels and cleaner to work off.

Unless it's a really solid driveway on clay, in which case I will often do a layer of chunky hardcore or crush then cap with type 1. But either way, I begrudge paying to have a load of dirt and stones taken away then paying even more for near enough the same stuff back but slightly reduced.

Yes well spotted and couldn't agree more, but as it's not 'my job' I am not bothered:poop: :ROFLMAO:
On this job, Richard will be putting a layer of 'drylean' before the usual sand and blocks.
He did Wack the crushed to death yesterday
Regarding chunky hardcore, only sometimes use this then 'blind' with crushed or Type 1.
Did this last year on the rear yard of my barn where I run my heavy Hyster FLT. It's solid ;)
And yes personally on 'my jobs' I use regulate MOT Type 1 which goes down really well.
Have to remind myself that "I am not a Groundworker" 🤫

Cost in this area has a lot to do with it, Type 1 granite/limestone is circa £23-25 per tonne on an 8 wheeler around here. Some parts of the country they are paying the same as we are for crushed rubbish!
I had a lot of Type1A (recycled) earlier this year, that was pretty variable! But most of it did go down really well. As with all of it, if the feed the crusher crap, you get crap out the other end, doesn’t matter what label you put on it afterwards!

Agree with all of that 👍🏻
If order stuff for the job, then use the Type1 but if I am working for others then have to use what crap 💩 they have 🤣

I used crushed once on a job.... I was a bit shocked at how poor it was but it went down o.k TBF, I think mainly because it was dry at the time, if it was a wet day I think it would have turned to shite under the plate, but on average we pay equivalent of £15 per ton for 0-30mm delivered and so not worth using crushed.

Type 1 is £27/ton here recently, and I'd still sooner pay that than use s**t like the photo above!

That's cause you are surrounded by mountains made from the stuff! All our type 1 comes up by rail- usually from the West Country. A blocked line last year meant that it had to come in by road from another quarry and the price shot up from £22 to £27/28 a ton.

Maybe so, but if the job requires several lorry loads of material, the cost soon mounts up and people dont want to pay the extra.
There is such a thing as good quality crushed, it’s just knowing where to get it and who you can trust. Sadly those kind of places are few and far between, and also pushing their prices up accordingly.

Yea, I guess that has a huge factor. I know alot of stone is shipped out of Belfast to the UK also. A mate was telling me last week the quarries are flat out exporting stone at the minute
