What do you guys think is needed to rip these out? I had them left pretty high to give some leverage. A guy who drives a backhoe stopped round today and its left me thinking its a bigger job than i envisaged?! Static nowt to do with me. The sideways job is about 600mm diameter, the ash with the hammer stuck in top about 400mm diameter

Not a bad shout although planning for some footings close by that knarly 600mm one so prob would have to come out. The ones along the back fence prob 4m away from any footings so maybe grinding a better option there?

I have dug bigger out with the K008. Do agree though that leaving the fence upright may be an issue, but if you’re generous digging round three sides, the fourth may not be as bad as you think by hand and axe.

They’ll come out, wouldn’t bother with anything less than a 2.5tonner tbh. but if you want to save the fence and not have a huge crater just do as everyone else is saying and grind them off

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
Others might disagree but I would say grind them out. That way you don't risk disturbing the fence
exactly my thoughts ... clear around 'em and get 'em down as low as poss. then grinder time (y)

If you dig them out you will need to replace the fence, no way they are coming out without a fencing follow-up. And if you accept that the fence is sacrificial then you might as well get something with a bit of grunt at them.
If the fence must be kept as-is then stump grind.

Root hook on a a mini digger assisted by a tirfor type winch and a mattock.... on day work could probably make it stretch out to a whole day if you had to 😉
Mattocks...not so fond memories helping an old boy as a nipper drigging stumps out...we had last laugh tho ...he confidently eventually hooked up steel rope to rear bumper of his astra van....and shot off at decent speed...up popped stump...
His forlorn face after studying a rather odd shaped rear bumper told a different tale later though 🤣🤣🤣👍
