Reverse Drive Backhoe tilt rotator

Looks tidy enough.. but it’s reasonably easy to tip over a 3cx with a full 3ft bucket over the side anyway, without an extra 300kg tilty on the end! Still I’d fill the tyres with water first and see how that helps matters..
Ah but a 3cx isn't supposed to pick up a full 3ft bucket at reach

As a lot on here know, I'm a Tiltrotator guy! But I haven't seen a lot of success with fitting them on backhoes. The geometry is just all wrong! I know of a few 3CX's that have had them removed, I was even involved with fitting one on a Cat 432 at Caterpillar Desford for evaluation which wasn't a huge hit ether and was removed and fitted to a Cat 308 instead.
The only one I seen that was decent was the 4CX we did a few years ago, Direct mount with no gripper and a "matched bucket". I think the 4CX has a longer backhoe than the 3CX (i could be wrong).

thank you for sharing this, this is exactly what i'm worried about, especially with my 420 being on the smaller side of backhoes. S45 with a oil connection seems to make good sense, no matter what, as we need a lot of hydraulic attachments for work here. I'm a little scared of the tilt rotator messing up the geometry. Dc2 Gives us wheel control, which is the real reason for the whole project.
I appreciate any input you may have.

Somewhat of an update on the 420 project.

It turns out there is a danish Company named Lauso, That makes the Hydraulic components to more easily convert backhoes to drive backwards. they have done a nice new holland here. They have also done several 3CX's that look brilliant.

For and Accelerator we bought a spare from Cat, and will mount it to the floor, on the right, Than splice it into the existing harness for the drivers side accelerator. Foot Room is getting tight here. little worried about how close pedals are to seat. oh well.

Steering we are planning on using an Engcon Wheel control unit, meant for a wheeled excavator. This will put the steering on the right joystick roller. We will also use the FNR switch engcon offers.

Last Problem is brakes, I think we can T into the system above the rear Dif. the problem lies in actuating a big enough master Cylinder to handle the brakes, that also fits neatly under the floor. Any advice here would be welcome.

I'm not sure on the solution for the brakes but it's a bit more complicated than that. Your not just dealing with one brake pipe you've got independent left and right and you also will lose servo assistance.

Am I missing something here? On trenching isn’t it legs up pull yourself forwards backwards with arm legs down dig on, what else do you need to be driving backwards for that you can’t look over your shoulder?

yea, You'r missing the whole point, Hahaha. We don't use backhoes like you do in the UK, for trenching and footings (although that looks bloody fun). a backhoe for us is a tool carrier, usually the second machine on a pipe crew, Responsible for:
-bedding
-Tending bedding box
-carry pipe
-push backfill
-compact backfill
-unload trucks
-mowing road shoulders
-dig joint utility trench
-sand bedding in JUT
-Grading for sidewalk
-Crawlspace Digouts.
-plowing snow
-tree removal

This diverse list of tasks is why we choose a backhoe, and why it stays so busy on a subdivision job. Reverse drive is a must have for some of these activities, and a game changer for others.

no, I mean we have almost NON of that work here, no one would hire a backhoe for that anywhere but california or some places in the midwest.
I like the fact that americans think we only use backhoes for trenching and footings :ROFLMAO:

Whenever I see that video it just seems pointless. If you want to drive round with a tiltrotator surely a duck would do it better. If you want a backhoe then use it as a backhoe was intended.

What's the price difference between that 4cx and a mecalac duck ?? Or just a plain 8t duck

It's funny because i always thought the one of the big advantages of a tilty was less repositioning of the machine yet theres a video where it seems that to make use of the tilty they've come up with the most arse about face way to do most of the job just to use the tilty and reverse drive.

Who pulls the legs up. Just lift yourself up.

Front bucket lift on the Backactor would be more useful
-they have those big

most the jobs I could do easily without having fancy reverse drive or tilt rotator on backhoe but if you want it and you earn million dolads a week so may as well spend it haha 😂

back hoes get used for a lot of stuff here as well

Exactlay really annoying video

could be done with front bucket quicker and safer
