Retaining wall advice

So had a bit of time today to revisit this. It’s looking like the stepoc might be the way to go. Whilst normal 9” hollows are cheaper, there’s the cost of paying someone to lay them, sand/cement etc. I’ve done the online calculator and I need about 4 packs. I’ll ring a few local builders merchants in the morning and see if they can get them in, could only find one price online 🙄
Be interested to know cost for when I do mine

That seems expensive. Lords online look to come to half that? Without any discount
The first item is for 4 packs….

Been a while since I used these but if it's not face work you might get away with cutting the halfs on site and using a timber stop end instead of the end blocks?

That would save you a good 500 quid

The L2’s are cheaper than Lords by £300ish. It’s the plain ends and half lengths that I’d have to buy full packs but only need about 4 and 6 to finish the ends. They’re not a stock item so don’t think I could get part packs.

Allready seen the eBay ones, sadly they’re the 325mm versions so much deeper.

Amderton don't sell directly either, so you do all the leg work with them and they get you to go through a builders merchant who get a percentage for doing sweet fa.

Design of the foundations is a bit of a ball ache off the top of my head last one I did was two layers of a393 900mm wide and made into a box around 90mm high using U bars, with L bars 100mm in from corners/end and then 200mm spacings which you then tie straight bar to to get the extra height.

You'll lose a day just tying steel, but once you have bedded the first course you just tie the steel horizontal bars and dry lay the remaining courses.

If your anywhere near northampton I'm open to offers on some stepoc 200 got around 35 full ones 3 half ends 1 full end and then the majority of the steel to do around 9m of straight wall, which consists of 47 x 1.3 bar, 24 x 3m, 100 x 350 85 350 u bars, 47 x L bars, pack of 75mm high stools, pack of 50mm tric tack spacers, bundle of tying wire
You'll just need a few extra bars and couple of sheets of a393 mesh

I’ve started the dig out today, got a grab lorry coming for second load of subsoil on Monday. I’ve hopefully got a builder lined up to do the blockwork, wether that’s with hollows or solids on their side I’m open to his advice. I exposed the end of the existing retaining wall and it’s a brick and a half wide as deep as I’ve seen so far.

More than likely would have been built off back of a fag packet drawing, got a similar one on job I'm on its 200mm hollow and has a 100mm facing bricks, the wall has rotated a bit and the facing brickwork has cracks it's holding up around 1.3m in places footing is 700mm deep in one bit and only 500mm in other bits.

The retaining wall in the pic is around 9.2m long and something like 1.6m from top of wall to bottom of footing with just under 1.1m of blockwork

You'll ideally leave 3 weeks or so between building and backfilling according to the engineer that specified that one

I've got a copy of the bre retaining walls guide, if you need one although use at your own risk etc etc

So here’s where it’s now at. Will be filling hollows with concrete when I get chance and now brickwork is above ground level I can backfill with some type 1 until driveway gets done properly next year. Builder back in a month or two to finish rest of brickwork to match the house.

Had no moisture at all out of the bank despite all the rain. Got drainage gaps in bottom course of blocks and bricks. Behind being filled with loose rubble first then some old pea gravel I've got leftover on top.
sounds like plenty of weeps'll cope fine then (y)
