This is where the difficulties start though. How many farms have campsites and of those many have overtaken the farming from a business point of view. It's only the beginning of it not the end imho and the only realistic goal long term can be red going entirely. You could argue why forestry can still use it, how much forestry work is geared toward timber production for construction?

It's be the same as it alway has been. Clear as mud. Billy big bollocks with the fastrac ignoring it and getting away with it. Others not wanting to take the risk, and wondering why their profit margins are so much less- yet nothing is ever done about it.

How long before hidden fuel tanks are fitted. Dip the main tank with white but actually running on red on a secondary tank.
The only way they can enforce it is if they catch you using the machine on what is clearly a new build construction site. If I worked in London I might be worried - hard to claim agriculture in the city! But otherwise you could be doing forestry work clearing for a new build site. Or horticulture on a new housing estate, technically both exempt.
There's so many ways around this.
Personally for the little extra it costs, I'm moving to white anyway and putting the price up to accommodate. Sell my bowser, fill up jerry cans every day when I stop at the garage for wild bean café goodies anyway.... Seems a good excuse to put prices up - everything else is going up big time. Inflation/ demand or whatever it is I'm not going to be stuck at 2018 prices in 2021.

I'm not sure what I'll do, white wouldn't add much to my costs, but I'll be buggered if I'm running the forklifts on red, for example. I'm based on the farm, the farm borrow the forklifts and I often give a hand with a digger to scrape out a shed etc. I've been straight all my life with white in vehicles whilst I know others who've got away with running red (TOTALLY illegally) for the same time I've been driving!
I couldn't be doing with stopping at the BP and queing with all the morons there just so I can fill up a machine and get to work. Get yourself a white diesel tank Olly, it's a huge timesaver. Time is money. Oh, and Wild Bean Cafe only sell overpriced s**t that will make you fat- you have an image to uphold mate. Your customers expect you to shop at Waitrose!
Regarding inflation- would it be fair to say that rates haven't increased for the best part of a decade? A 1.5t for the week was £200 way back when, it still seems to be the same now, until recently. With the current shortage of machines and demand, I'm having a price of £350 plus VAT for a micro or 1.9t plus driver on day rate accepted 75% of the time. This is in fairly affluent Sussex/Hampshire. Are we heading for an uptick in rates across the board? What's everyone else charging?

A yard will attract undesirables full stop, unfortunately. Just keep the tank locked and out of sight if poss. You don't hear people say 'I stop by the hire shop and pick up a pecker each day cause I don't want one at the yard to get nicked', do you? Why is diesel any different?

Untraceable as well, you don't have serial numbers or owt on diesel. One of the things which will come from the fact that there will be a lot of extra tanks of white dotted all over country is it will attract tea leaves into places they've never bothered with before. The old man nicked a bloke one night, in the late 60s, with a Moggy thou van, kitted out with a decent sized tank - nothing over the top to attract attention from looking overweight - who's MO was to pull up alongside a truck in a lorry park, wind down the window, lift the tank cap and slip his hose into the tank - all from his seat, switch on the pump and sit back.
Admitted to the old man he'd been doing it for years - was his job/income ... pleaded first offence in court apparently....'til the old man pulled out his notebook and read out the fella's 'confession'
----- two years in Cardiff ....... get two weeks in Benidorm these days

I’ve been thinking today about upping mine, currently on £300 plus vat. Had a good mate on the phone last night, very good driver who can do anything you ask him to, currently at a firm who pay him £200 a shift, said he’d had someone on the phone desperate for a driver on the roads & sewers, offered him £250 a shift. He’s not as daft as he looks sometimes and says he’s stopping were he is as he knows his jobs safe.
Made we question why I’m bothering tho if I could get £250 a day for tossing it off on some other feckers fancy hitachi.
